Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
AIM:
To prepare a residential plan for G+1 floor according to Vaastu shastra and to calculate corresponding loads for components of house.
- INTRODUCTION TO VAASTU SHASTRA :-
- Vaastu Shastra is the Ancient Indian Science of architecture and acts as a guideline to design your home in the way that enhances positive energy.
- Our nature is abundant with powerhouses of energy sources like the sun, wind, fire, moon, water and earth.
- Effect of sunrays, flow of winds, pull of earth's magnetic field and other such cosmic energies utilise properly to enhance the positive energy at home.
- A good home needs to radiate the right kind of energy.
- A person dwelling in a house comes under the influence of a specific energy field.
- Architectural changes are not possible for a ready to move in house.
- Significance of Eight directions :-
- Four cardinal directions are North, South, East and West.
- Four intercardinal direction are North-east, North-west, South-east and South-west.
- Each direction signifies an aspect of life and is governed by various gods as per Vaastu Shastra.
- North - Wealth
- South - Dharma
- West and East - Overall prosperity
PROCEDURE:-
- SKETCH OF GROUND FLOOR PLAN:-

- SKETCH OF FIRST FLOOR PLAN :-

- Names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction are: -
- Centre line drawing.
- Footing and column layout as per reinforcement details.
- Column schedule with reinforcement details.
- Plinth beam layout with reinforcement details.
- Each floor beam layout with reinforcement details.
- Lift pit and head room with reinforcement details.
- Each floor plans.
- Foundation plan.
- Roof slab layout.
- Column layout.
- Column section layout.
- Overhead tank layout.
- ASSUMED DIMENSIONS
- Thickness of external walls - 0.23m.
- Thickness of internal walls - 0.115m.
- Thickness of slab =0.25m.
- Dimensions of each column - 0.3m x 0.3m.
- Dimensions of each beam - 0.3m x 0.45m.
- Height of each floor - 3m.
- LOAD CALCULATIONS FOR THE RESIDENTIAL PLAN: -
- DEAD LOAD CALCULATION:
- Dead load of Column:
- Dimension of column = 0.3x0.3m
- The height of column from ground = slab thickness x 2 + height of each floor x 2 = 0.25 x2 +3x2 = 6.5m
- Size of column is 0.3m x 0.3m
- The volume of each column is 0.3 x 0.3 x 6.5 = 0.585 m^3
- Unit weight of reinforced concrete = 25KN/m as per conforming from IS 875: Part-1
- Dead load due to each column = 25*0.585=625KN.
- Dead load of Beams:
- The dimensions of beam are 0.3m x 0.45m
- Unit weight of reinforced concrete = 25KN/m^3
- Dead load due to beam = 25*0.3*0.45 = 375KN/m
- Dead load of Slab:
- Slab is always designed for the span of 1m or 2m Hence, assume size of slab as 1mx1m.
- Thickness of slab considered as 250mm or 0.25m
- Unit weight of reinforced concrete = 25KN/m^3
- Dead load of slab per m^2 = 25*0.25*1*1= 25KN/m^22
- Dead load of Walls:
- Thickness of external wall considered here is 230mm i.e., 0.23m
- Thickness of internal wall considered here is 115mm i.e., 0.115m
- Height of each wall is 3m
- Unit weight of brick wall is 20KN/m^3
- Dead load due to external wall = 20*0.23*3=8KN/m
- Dead load due to internal wall = 20*0.115*3= 9KN/m
- Dead load of Brick:
- The standard dimension of brick is given as 190mm x 90mm x 90mm
- The weight of standard brick is 1.9kg or 18.632N
- Dead load of brick = 632N or 0.0186KN
- Live load calculation
- As per Table 1 of IS - 875 part 2, for residential building:
- living/dining - 2KN/m^2
- kitchen - 2KN/m^2
- bedroom - 2KN/m^2
- bathroom - 2KN/m^2
- puja room - 2KN/m^2
- Terrace - 3KN/m^2
- Wind load calculation
- The wind load acting on the structure is not significant for structures whose height is less than 10m.
- The height of the house is 6.5m.
- Therefore, 6.5m<10m, hence OK, no need to design for wind load.
Results :-
- The plan of G+1 Floor Residential Building is prepared with consideration of concept of Vaastu shastra.
- The load calculations are done as per the IS code consideration.
