Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

AIM

To sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.
To assume the sizes of the structural elements (Column, Beam, Slab, etc.,) and calculate the individual corresponding loads from the members as per IS code.

PROCEDURE

GROUND FLOOR PLAN (All dimensions are in Feet)

DIMENSIONS OF GROUND FLOOR

( Converting feet to meters )

Portico - 26'9" * 11' = 8.2m * 3.35m
Sitout - 10' * 10' = 3.05m * 3.05m
Foyer - 10' * 6'1" = 3.05m * 1.86m
LivingRoom - 16' * 16' = 4.88m * 4.88m
DinningRoom - 10' * 16'6" = 3.05m * 5.06m
KitchenRoom - 10' * 10' = 3.05m * 3.05m
BedRoom 1 - 16' * 10' = 4.88m * 3.05m
Toilet1 - 4'6" * 6'3" = 1.40m * 1.92m

FIRST FLOOR PLAN (All Dimensions are in feet

DIMENSIONS OF FIRST FLOOR

( Converting feet to meters)

Bedroom2 - 16' * 10' = 4.88m * 3.05m
Bedroom3 - 10' * 16' = 3.05m * 4.88m
Bedroom4 - 11' * 11' = 3.35m * 3.35m
Toilet2 - 4'6" * 10' = 1.40m * 3.05m
Toilet3 - 5' * 10' = 1.53m * 3.05m
Toilet4 - 4'6" * 11' = 1.40m * 3.35m
Balcony - 10'4" * 18'9" = 3.17m * 5.76m

OTHER DIMENSIONS

Thickness of internal wall = 0.15m
Thickness of external wall = 0.23m
Thickness of slab = 0.25m
Dimensions of column = 0.3m * 0.3 m
Dimensions of beam = 0.35m * 0.45m
Height of wall of each floor = 3m

CALCULATION OF LOAD

All columns and Beams are in the same size

DEAD LOAD

1.DEAD LOAD OF COLUMN

Dimensions of column = 0.3m * 0.3m

Height of column = (Slab thickness * 2) + (Height of wall for each floor * 2)

= (0.25*2) + (3*2) = 6.5m

Total volume of concrete = 0.3*0.3*6.5 = 0.585m^3

Unit weight of RCC = 25KN/m^3 ( As per IS 875 Part1 )

Dead load of column = Volume of concrete * Unit weight

= 0.585 * 25 = 14.62KN

2.DEAD LOAD OF BEAM

Dimensions of beam = 0.3*0.45

Total volume of concrete = 0.3*0.45*1 = 0.135m^3

Unit weight of RCC = 25KN/m^3 ( As per IS 875 Part1 )

Dead load of Beam = Volume of concrete * Unit weight

= 0.135*25 = 3.375KN

3,DEAD LOAD OF SLAB

Span of 1m is designed

Size of slab = 1 * 1

Thickness of slab = 0.25m

Density of slab = 25KN/m^3 ( As per IS 875 Part1 )

Dead load of Slab =Density * Unit weight * Dimensions

= 0.25 * 25 * 1 * 1 = 6.25KN

4.DEAD LOAD OF WALLS

EXTERNAL WALL

Thickness of wall = 0.23m

Unit weight = 20KN/m^3 ( As per IS 875 Part1 )

Height of Wall = 3m

Dead load = Thickness of wall * unit weight * height of the wall

= 0.23 * 20 * 3 = 13.8KN

INTERNAL WALL

Thickness of wall = 0.15m

Unit weight = 20KN/m^3 ( As per IS 875 Part1 )

Height of Wall = 3m

Dead load = Thickness of wall * unit weight * height of the wall

= 0.15*20*3 = 9KN

2 LIVE LOAD CALCULATION

According to IS875 Part 2

Bedroom = 2 KN/m^2
Living Room = 2 KN/m^2
Kitchen = 2 KN/m^2
Bathroom = 2 KN/m^2
Toilet = 2 KN/m^2
Terrace = 3 KN/m^2
Balcony = 3 KN/m^2
Portico = 3 KN/m^2
Foyer = 3 KN/m^2

3 WIND LOAD CALCULATION

Wind load is designed when the height of the building exceeds 10m

The height of the building is 6.5m which is less than 10m

So, calculation of wind load is not required.

REFERENCE USED

IS 875- 1987 (Part 1) for Dead load

IS 875- 1987 (Part 2) for Live load

IS 875- 1987 (Part 3) for Wind load

IS 456- 2000 for Reinforced concrete

RESULT

The plan is prepared by Vastu Shastra concept considering all principles and considerations of Vaastu shastra
Load calculations are done according to IS code consideration.
