Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code

AIM : Sketch a G+1 floor residential plan, according to Vaastu Shastra, and list down the names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction.

PROCEDURE:

Sketch of Ground Floor Plan:

Dimensions of Ground Floor:

Living Room 6.4m X 3.5m
Master Bed Room 4m X 4.5m
Pooja Room 3m X 3m
Kitchen 4m X 4m
Dining 3.8m X 3m
Guest Room 3.5m X 3.5m
WC 2.2m X 1.2m

Sketch of First floor:

Dimensions of First floor:

Bed Room - 2 4m X 4m
Study Room 2.2m X 8.3m
Terrace 5m X 13.66m
Yoga & Meditation Room 3m X 3m

Other Dimensions:

Thickness of External Wall 230 mm
Thickness of Internal Wall 150 mm
Thickness of slab 250 mm
Dimensions of column 0.3m X 0.3m
Dimensions of Beam 0.3m X 0.45m
Height of Ground Floor 4m
Height of First Floor 4m

Calculation of Loads:

1. Dead Load Calculation

a) Dead load of columns

  • Dimessions = 0.3 x 0.3
  • Height of column = (0.25 * 2) + 4m + 4m = 8.5 m
  • Total Volume of one column = 0.3 * 0.3 * 8.5 = 0.765 m^3
  • Unit weight of RCC = 25 KN/m^3 (from IS 875: part 1)
  • Dead Load of one column = 0.765 * 25 = 19.125 KN

b) Dead load of Beams

  • Dimensions of beam = 0.3 x 0.45
  • Unit weight of RCC = 25 KN/m^3 (from IS 875: part 1)
  • Dead load of beam = 0.3 * 0.45 * 25 = 3.375 KN/m

c) Dead load of Slab

  • Thickness of slab = 0.25m (250mm)
  • Unit weight of RCC = 25 KN/m^3 (from IS 875: part 1)
  • Dead load of slab = 0.25 * 25 = 6.25 KN/m^2

d) Dead load of walls

  • Thickness of External wall = 0.23 m (230mm)
  • Unit Weight of brick masonry = 20 KN/m^3
  • Height of Ground floor + First floor = 4 + 4 = 8m
  • Dead load of External wall = 0.23 * 8 * 20 = 36.8 KN/m
  • Thickness of Internal wall = 0.15m (150mm)
  • Dead load of Internal wall = 0.15 * 8 * 20 = 24 KN/m

2. Live Load Calculations:

As per IS 875: Part 1, for residential buildings, live loads are taken as

Living Room 2 KN/m^2
Dining 2 KN/m^2
Bed room 2 KN/m^2
Kitchen 2 KN/m^2
Washroom 2 KN/m^2
Terrace 3 KN/m^2
Staircase 3 KN/m^2

3. Wind Load Calculations:

If the height of the building is more than 10m then building is designed for wind load

And in this case the building height is 8m which is less than 10m.

Thus Wind load need not to be considered.

The names of the structural drawings required to be provided to the site for construction are:

1. Centre line drawing

2. Footing and column layout with reinforcement details

3. Column schedule with reinforcement details

4. Plinth beam layout with reinforcement details

5. Each floor beam layout with reinforcement details

6. Lift pit and head room with reinforcement details

7. Each Floor plans

8. Foundation plan

9. Block plan

10. Roof slab layout

11. Column layout

12. Column sections

13. Septic tank detail

14. Overhead water tank detail

15. Furniture plan

16. Road drainage plan

17. Setting out plan

18. Section drawings of buildings

19. Plumbing details

20. Electrification details

RESULT:

  • The paln of G + 1 Floor Residential Building is prepared with consideration of Concept of vastu shastra.
  • The load calculations are done as per IS code considerations
