Challenge

Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Aim

Use the Section from your Hood design and calculate the Section Modulus using the formula

S = I/y

Where,

S = Section Modulus

I = Moment of Inertia

y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object

Observation

Calculation

From the above observation

we get

MOI=9.249463064e+07=92494630.64mm^4

y=439.4mm

ie. Section Modulus, S=92494630.64/439.4 = 210502.118mm^3

Observation -2

By increasing the impose length from 5 to 10, then

we can able to increase the Moment of Inertia by 1.764743710e+08mm^4

Calculation

Section Modulus = MOI/y= 176474371/439.4=401625.7874mm^3

Conclusion

By increasing the embose depth of the inner pannel from 5 to 10 ,we can able to increase the moment of inertia thus it increase the section modulus . Thus we can able to increase the strength of the hood.
