Section Modulus calculation and optimization
SECTION MODULUS AND OPTIMIZATION
We will use here the design of the previous hood here. by using the hood design we will calculate the section modulus and try to optimize it.
- The ratio of total moment resist by the section to the stress in the extreme fiber
- it gives us an idea about how much load the given structure can take
- if the section modulus increases the moment of resistance increases and hence its load-bearing capacity.
SECTION MODULUS
S = Section Modulus
I = Moment of Inertia
y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
FORMULA FOR IT
S = I/y
Case 1

Here
Moment of inertia is =1.395524898e+06(mm'4)
and the value of y will be 438.01
S =13955.24/438.01
S=31.86mm'3
Case 2
Moment of inertia is=14846.37
and the value of y will be 438.01
S=14846.37/438.01
S=33.89mm'3

In the second case, we have optimized the value of the section modulus. the strength of it also increases.

I removed the perpendicular length and directly joined the line here earlier the perpendicular length was 1.9mm.
