Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section Modulus of Hood

            Section modulus is the geometric property of a cross section of a part. It directly represents the strength of a part at the selected cross section it is the ratio of the area moment of inertia and the span from neutral axis to the farthest point of the part. Its unit mm^3.

Formula S=I/Y

 S-Section modulus

 I – Area moment of Inertia

 Y- Distance between central axis to farthest point

Section Modulus Calculation

Section inertia analysis result is shown

            According to the analysis,

                        Maximum moment of inertia (Imax) = 3.439219038x106

                        Minimum moment of inertia (Imin) = 3.86978183x103

Y = 781.949071844 mm/2

                              S= 9.897785738 mm3

Modified section

Maximum section modulus of inertia = 3.418697644x106

Minimum section modulus of inertia = 4.021241125x103

S = 10.28517493 mm^3

Conclusion

            The details about the section modulus and the steps involved in calculating the section modulus and modified of the hood design is explained with reference image for clear understanding. and I also conclude that my hood design is improved than before.
