Fender Design
FENDER DESIGN
To design car front fender mounting areas as per the given master section.
Fender
The main purpose of the fender is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids and another road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

There are two types of fenders, they are
- Full bumper
- Half bumper

Currently we are using half bumper only because full bumper has lot of blank and lot of scarps but in half type bumper some changes did in same blank, we got two bumpers so mostly use only half bumper. This is called scarp management and cost effective also.
In half bumper type we reduce the usage of the steel material and uses the lots of plastic on the bumper which terms decreases the car weight and improve performance of the car.
Fender wheel arch:

It is curved part of the fender positioned above the wheel. The wheel arch is designed such that it protects both the pedestrian and car cabin from mud, water and rocks and other road spary. Difference countries have difference wheel arch regulation in place, and the wheel arch design has to comply with them to be deemed usable in that country.
For avoiding design alteration of the same vehicle to meet the different regulation parameters are taken into consideration.
Mounting regions on fender:

There are 5 mounting regions on the fender, they are
- A-pillar mounting
- Body mounting
- Sill mounting
- Bumper mounting
- Drip mounting
Design Methodology:
Given Data:

Design of Drip area Mounting:

It is the important mounting unit of the fender. It is connected with the engine compartment; therefore, the lot of design constraints are to be followed while designing the fender.
While designing the drip area we have to initially leave 200-300mm for cowl top for placing the headlamp we have to leave at least 150mm at the front while designing the fender.
Cowl top part consists of wiper motor and its instruments.
Two darts are provided for drip area got more stronger and reduce vibration of the drip area.
Design of Sill Mounting area:
Sill is the panel directly below the bottom of the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body.

Design of Bumper mounting area:

Bumper mounting area is used to fix the plastic bumper to the fender with the help of the fasteners.
Design of A-Pillar mounting area:

The A -pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body to the roof. This makes the sides of the windshield rest. Front fenders are fastened to the A -pillar to form a robust structure.
Design of baffle mounting:

Baffle mounting are clip fit type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the tyre. It protects the car engine compartment and pedestrians from causing injuries from chip out debris on the road when the car is motion. This baffle is made p of plastic material.

Conclusion:
Finally design of fender is done with the help of NX-CAD software by following the master section.
