Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Introduction:

Section modulus is a geometric property for a given cross-section used in the design of beams or flexural members. Other geometric properties used in the design include an area for tension, radius of gyration for compression, and moment of inertia for stiffness. Any relationship between these properties is highly dependent on the shape in question. Equations for the section moduli of common shapes are given below. There are two types of section moduli, the elastic section modulus (S) and the plastic section modulus (Z).
In the hood, we consider an Elastic section modulus (S)
Formula
S=I/Y
Where
S = Elastic section modulus
I = Moment of Inertia
y = distance between the neutral axis and the end of the object
Old Section:
Moment of Inertia(Max) = 4.833501967*10^6 [mm^4]
Moment of Inertia(Min) = 1.482182654 *10^4 [mm^4]
Section Modulus,
S=Moment of Inertia/Distance between neutral axis and end of the object(y)
For MOI max,
S= (4.833501967*10^6 [mm^4]/(440.25 mm)
S= 10978.98 mm^3
For MOI Min
S= (1.482182654 *10^4 [mm^4]/(440.25 mm)
S= 33.66 mm^3
New Section ( Modified Section):
For getting better results the hood inner panel width was increased to 0.50 mm than achieved below values as results
Moment of Inertia(Max) = 4.824672795*10^6 [mm^4]
Moment of Inertia(Min) = 1.500389307 *10^4 [mm^4]
Section Modulus,
S=Moment of Inertia/Distance between neutral axis and end of the object(y)
For MOI max,
S= (4.824672795*10^6 [mm^4]/(440.25 mm)
S= 10958.77 mm^3
For MOI Min
S= (1.500389307 *10^4 [mm^4]/(440.25 mm)
S= 34.07 mm^3
Conclusion:
Section of modulus has been increased and also increasing the Strenght of Material
