Section Modulus calculation and optimization
what is section modulus :
Z = I/y
Z = Section Modulus
I = Area Moment of Inertia
Y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
area moment of inertia :

according to the bending equation :
M / I = σ /y = E / R
M = bending moment (or) resistance towards bending
I = area moment of inertia
σ = bending stress
Y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object
from the bending equation ,

so in order to get maximum resistance towards bending m max , we need maximum value of section modulus , hence the distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object for an object is constant , resistance towards bending is directly propertional to the area moment of inertia .
Section from your Hood design and calculate the section modulus :
calculating section modulus for frontal impact .

case 1 ( before optimization )

we will consider moment of inertia minimun because of factor of safety .
MOI min or Imin = 2.809501994e+05[mm^4]
Y = 879.9059/2 = 439.95295
S1 = I/Y = 2.80950*10^5mm^4 / 439.95295mm = 638.593 mm^3
case 2 ( after optimization )

we will consider moment of inertia minimun because of factor of safety .
MOI min or Imin = 2.842815487e+05[mm^4]
Y = 879.9059/2 = 439.95295
S2 = I/Y = 646.163 mm^3
s1<s2
the optimization was a successes , we are able to increase the resistance towards bending .
