REVIT_Revision w.r.t to code_Week 5

1) Why are building codes or standards essential for the modeling / efficiency of drawings in Revit?

Ans. The main purpose of building codes is to protect public health, safety and general welfare as they are related to the construction and occupancy of buildings. The building code becomes law of particular jurisdiction when enacted by an appropriate government or private authority. As we follow standard codes of building in the software it gives us the drawing as per the specification in the code book which is ready for construction and can be followed.

4) Give examples of different disciplines involved in construction of a project

Ans:- The different disciples involved in construction of a project are:

  1. Architects
  2. Civil Engineer
  3. Structural Engineer
  4. Electrical engineer
  5. Plumbing Engineer
  6. Fire protection Engineer
  7. HVAC Engineer
  8. Environment speclist
  9. Town planner
  10. Urban Engineer
  11. Security system Engineer Interior Designer
  12. Quantity surveyor
  13. Other specialist

5) How are buildings classified ? Place the following buildings under each category

  1. Four unit apartments
  2. School with capacity of 1000 students
  3. A single unit shop
  4. Multi story Shopping complex
  5. Steel machine factory

Ans:- Buildings are classified in different ways as

Residential building

Industrial Building

Educational building

Institutional building

Business building

Storage building

Hazardous building

  1. Four unit apartments : Residential building
  2. School with capacity of 1000 students : Educational building
  3. A single unit shop: Mercatile building
  4. Multi story shopping complex: Commercial/mercatile building
  5. Steel machine factory: Industrial building

6) Distinguish the roles of Design team and Management team

Ans. The design team for the projects consists of engineers and an architect. Often, team itself may consist of an architectural firm and an engineering firm which employ several architects or engineers. On smaller projects, you may simply have one architect or engineer who is tasked with your project. Each of these groups can have individuals which specialize in specific areas of design or engineering.

Architects team:

The architectural team is responsible for the design stage of the project. The architect will take an idea and the owner confirms if that idea is feasible, and they create a design around it. Mostly, architects are focusing on incorporating sustainability into their designs and coming out with new ways to add value to the client through decision processes. Different types of architects may specialize in different projects. Some architects specialize in specific types of buildings, while others specialize in a subset of the project itself. For example, in a single project, you may have an architect who is designing the physical structure for the project and a second landscape architect that is responsible for designing the exterior portion of the project. Architecture is both an art and a science. Modern professional architects try to produce buildings that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Engineers team:

The design team will consist of one or more engineers in addition to the architects. Broadly speaking, engineers are responsible for ensuring that the finished product of the construction project is safely and appropriately constructed. But this isn't all engineers do on construction projects. Engineers make sure that the project is as efficient as possible, reducing costs while maintaining necessary safety features. Engineers will also conduct an initial survey of the building site to assess feasibility for the project and get a sense of any special accommodations that may need to be made. This may also include bringing a general contractor on board and incorporating them into design discussions. Like other parts of construction projects, in order to be effective, project management teams must be familiar with the design process as a whole. They must understand where problems might arise and work to mitigate those problems as efficiently as possible.

One of the roles of the project manager during the design process is to facilitate the flow of information between other entities involved in the process. This includes the client architects, and engineers. The project manager is also responsible for ensuring that each team member has a clear understanding of the project budget and schedule. This will help ensure that the design will progress within the project budget and time constraints. Project managers are typically engaged throughout the design process. The design phase occupies a significant portion of the preconstruction phase. Design considerations can impact the project timeline and budget and may require the project manager to revise the project's strategic plan.

7) Refer to NBC, Identify the modeling requirements for the project ( from week 4).

  1. Height Limitations
  2. Area Limitations
  3. Room sizing
  4. Wall height
  5. Thickness based on fire life and safety
  6. Passageway requirements

AIM: To model the week 4 project as per the NBC requirements

TOOLS REQUIRED:

  • Architectural tab
  • Wall
  • Roof
  • Ceiling

PROCEDURE:

1. Open the project file from week 4.

2. Change the dimensions of rooms as per the NBC rules if required.

3. select elevation view and change height of floor to 12’.

4.Open 3D view and see the changes.

5. The height of walls is automatically changed.

6. Complete the model according to NBC rules.

RESULT: The project is modelled according to NBC requirements.

8) We have identified requirements of modeling from question 7, use these numbers from code book and verify the numbers used in modeling the unit from week 2 to week 4. If the numbers are not reasonable, use the numbers obtained from the code book to create a revision of the mode.

This model resembles the actual modelling requirements for project 1 of course work.

Ans. As per the NBC rules all standards are satisfied in my building.

  1. Height of the building should be 1.5times the width of the street and as the street width is 10m so the height of my building should be 1.5*0=15m

therefore My building height is 48 feet= 48/3.281=14.62m hence satisfied

Area Limitations can be seen from the table 3 of floor area ratio FAR

FAR = Total covered area of all floors/total plot area =108 m2

total floors 2= 108* 2 = 216m2

total plot area= 180m2

FAR= 216/180 =1.2m2 it comes under Type 1, 2, 3

Room size is standard size as per the NBC

kitchen area with seperate dinning room shouldn't be less than 5 m2.
