REVIT_Analysing the building & Report preparation_Week 8

1)   What are HVAC systems ? Why are they essential in modeling of buildings?

A) HVAC system is one of the major component in the modeling of a building. The term HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning, here  Heating means to increase the temperature of the input air which flows into the building, ventilation means  the replacement of the existing air present in the room with new fresh air and is also said as input of fresh air and output of stale and bad air. Air conditioning is a well known term which means that to allow cool air into the building.

HVAC systems have become mandatory in these days as the technology is developed and everyone are used to comforts.  proper HVAC systems we can enhance the sustainability and condition of the building environment. This system also improves the comfort and increases the mood of workability of the members.

If the outside environment temperature is more automatically the colling system will operate and moderates the temperature by allowing cool fresh air. If the inside temperature is cold the system activates the heating system or heaters, which gradually increses the temperature and makes us feel comfortable. So HVAC systems are important and are essential in modeling a building.

Mainly these HVAC systems are used at malls, offices and large clubs where the population is large. As the population increases , the amount of air  required will be more else  it leads to suffocation. These days people have more intrest regarding their health, with the help of automatic HVAC systems we can control the internal temperature very easily.

some of the reasons why to have reliable HVAC systems in place for buildings.

  • HVAC systems control the overall climate in the building. They  make  proper adjustments whenever we  require any change or experience changes in outdoor temperature which make us to feel discomfortable , During the winter season, the HVAC systems (mainly the boilers or heaters) work to keep the indoor temperature at a comfortable level. In hotter times of the season, the HVAC systems regulate air temperature by providing the necessary cooling to keep the entire building comfortable.
  • Having a comfortable office climate enhance the level of productivity and increases morale amongst the workers. people workig  in good environment will surely be motivated to perform better because they feel good in their work environment. Having a proper HVAC system installed is guaranteed to make your employees happy, hence giving you better work results in return.
  • HVAC systems not only regulate the temperature inside the building, they also improve the quality of air. The quality of air pertains to humidity, and  typically HVAC system will also reduce the amount of humidity in the air.

QUESTION 3)     Use the add-ins tab to load plug-ins for robot structural analysis to your Revit software.

ANS 3)  Steps to add ins tab to load plug-ins for robot structural analysis :

  • Firstly check for the robot structural analysis, whether it  is enabled or disabled.
  • If it is not available , we have to download it from auto desk store.
  • On the top right side of the revit we will find a symbol resembling similar to thar of shopping click on the symbol.
  • Then  autodesk store opens, there is  search box available  search for  structure analysis followed by the respective version the revit software then download the tool.
  • Thus  robot structural analysis will be reflected in our revit software.

QUESTION 4)  Why do we need to assess buildings /analyze while modeling elements ? Does design affect modeling in anyways ?

ANS 4)

Structure is one of the major component in a building of a model. We cannot construct a model without a proper structure. The structure framework acts as a skeleton framework to the building. All the loads are considered under structural part. The architecture part in a model   plays an important role only in the appearance of the buliding.

Structure analysis is essential  for a building  a model as to know how much  maximum loada building can  bare and how long the model can withstand the loads. Before the construction of the building we do not have all the componets installed in the building like walls and other components, so before we construct the building model  we have to analyse the model before taking appropriate load values to calculate how much load the structure can bare. After constructing of the building, if the structure collapses as it could not  withstand the loads, so  we cannot do anything after something like that happens it is better to analyse the sructure before constructing. We can calcutale the total load, deflections, SFD and BMD.

Structure analysis can be considered as a demo or sample test to get a  strengths of the structure. In a building model  we have  different types of loads like point load, uniform load, area load and so on. So we can do analysis by  adding different  types of loads so that we want and assume the load values to test our structure. It is considered that better is the structure if the structure  holds more load, than the load capicity calculated in the analysis.

The design affects the model so we have to place the columns at desired places where they do not cause much disturbance and at place where it can hold maximum amount of load. So thus we can conclude that it is necessary to perform the structure analysis while modeling elements and we can say that the design affects modeling.

QUESTION 5)    From the structural model developed in week 6 and 7, export the complete analytical model to robot structural analysis.
             a. List your assumptions on what boundary conditions will be realistic for analysis approach
             b. Use the design standards to decide what loads must be applied to floorings based on the type of structure decided
             c. List the load combinations and include them in analysis model
             d. Analyze the building and report the following results
                              i. Maximum Moment in each floor for all Load Combinations
ii. Maximum Displacement in each floor for all Load combinations
iii. Lateral Displacement in building for all Lateral Load combinations
             e. After analysis , do you think you have a better approach or idea in modeling structural members ?

ANS 5)

AIM : To perform robot structure analysis to the building created in the previously.

  1. a)  Boundary conditions are the conditions which are to be satisfied at all parts of a boundary region where differential conditions have to be solved separetely. For the analysis of the structure we have to consider loads, as in oue model  we do not have any loads so we have to assume suitable amount of load for the analysis. We have have many forces in any direction along X, Y or Z axis. We have to assume that the total moment as 0 and the structure is in equilibrium. We have to locate loads at suitable positions so as to complete the analysis. The list of parameters required are :
  2. Degree of freedom.
  3. Supports.
  4. Type of load.
  5. Opposing loads.
  1. b) We can apply different types of loads based on our requirements like:

wind load.

Dead load.

Live load.

Earthquake load.

  1. c) The total number of floors in my building are three and  including the ground floor (G+3 floors). 0.9DL +- 1.5 EL, (+-ELx +- 0.3ELy)(+-0.3 ELx +- ELy)(+-ELx +- 0.3 ELy)(+-0.3 ELx +- ELy), these are the four conditions of the x and y coordinates.
  1. d) Analyze the building and report the following results
Maximum Moment in each floor for all Load Combinations
ii. Maximum Displacement in each floor for all Load combinations
iii. Lateral Displacement in building for all Lateral Load combinations

PROCEDURE :

  1. First we have to open the structure template file which was created previously using file icon.

2.from  the view toolbar  select analytic model and go to 3D view.

3.under  the manage toolbar and select structural settings option.

4.Then  select load combination tool and Now select the amount of load and the type of load we want to  apply in the model for the analysis of our building and click ok.

5.click on analysis tab and then select the type of support we want to use in our structural analysis.

6.then  click on analysis and now we can see the load calculations we have applied to our structure.

RESULT :

we have calculated the load calculation with the help of the assumed loads we have provided to the software with the help of robot software. In this way we can  perfored  structure analysis with any desired loads and check the strength of our designed building.

6)   What is energy analysis and why do we need to consider it while modeling in Revit ? How does the factor of sustainability improve the quality of your design ?

A)

Energy analysis is the way by which  we can calculate the amount of energy used in an operation which involves in physical and chemical actions which  plays an important role in transfering and exchange of energy. With the help of energy analysis we can analyze the  volume of air in and out  through the openings and rooms. With this analysis we can find out defects in our project and rectify the plan if  we do not have any problems to the environment.

In this analysis all the components are taken into consideration like electric equipments and other equipments which releases heat into the environment. The analysis of energy  is very important in the modeling of project in revit as  if the energy released  into the environment is more then it may cause human and environmental damage.

We could implement different techniques where the energy released could be minimized for example  using renewable sources of energy like solar panels, biomass, wind energy and so on and also  have to recycle the  products so that it does not cause much damage to the environment.

We can peform the energy analysis for revit models by using energy analysis for autodesk revit. This add-in connects the design power of the revit project file to the Autodesk green building studio which acts as a basic constrain for calculation and evaluation.

The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments.
