Challenge

Reinforcement detailing of Columns from ETABS output

AIM: THE ETABS FILE FOR A G+4 BUILDING IS PROVIDED. RUN THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN THE RCC MOMENT RESISTING FRAME. THE FOLLOWING CHALLENGE DEALS SPECIFICALLY WITH TWO COLUMNS AT FOLLOWING GRID INTERDECTION

  1. 3A
  2. 3B
  • PROVIDED DETAILS OF LONGITUDINAL REINFORCEMENT FOR THE TWO COLUMNS, FROM FOUNDATION TO TERRACE LEVEL. SKETCH THE COLUMN CROSS SECTIONAL & ELEVATION DETAILS OR DRAFT IT USING AUTOCAD SOFTWARE.
  • SHOW SHEAR REINFORCEMENT & LAPPING DETAILS AS PER SPECIAL CONFINING REINFORCEMENT PROVISION OF CLAUSE 8.1 OF IS 13920 – 2016

ANS:

  • DESIGN RULE OF ANY REINFORORCED CONCRETE MEMBER:
  1. Minimum reinforcement for shrinkage & temperature
  2. Ultimate limit state design rebar requirement
  3. Ductility rebar requirement
  4. Above three point whichever is greater should be drawn in RC column detailing
  5. Minimum longitudinal reinforcement as per IS – 456-2000 clause 26.5.3.1 As = 2340mm^2
  6. Minimum shear (or) transverse reinforcement as per IS-13920 -2016 clause 7.4.2 – 8mm dia at 300mm spacing
  7. Development length as per IS-456-2000 clause 26.2.1 Ld = 41 x diameter of bar

  • PROCEDURE:
  1. Open Etabs software
  2. Open the G+4 model file provided in the challenge
  3. Select the column 3A & 3B right and show selected objects only
  4. Then press F5 and run the analysis
  5. Select concrete frame design of the model
  6. Note down longitudinal reinforcement
  7. Also note down the shear reinforcement from display design info

  1. Note:
  • Ast for 32mm diameter = 804.24mm^2
  • Ast for 25mm diameter = 490mm^2
  • Ast for 20mm diameter = 314mm^2
  • Ast for 16mm diameter = 201mm^2
  • Ast for 12mm diameter = 113mm^2

  1. Longitudinal reinforcement is provided as of following

  1. Share reinforcement is as per flowing we get from etab

  • RESULT:

Thus, the retailing of 2 RCC column where done using auto cad and special confining reinforcement is verified with respect to IS 13920 clause 8.1
