Project - Analysis of a practical automotive wiring circuit
[1] Major elements in the above automotive wiring diagram are:
1) Generator
2) Distributor
3) Junction Box
4) Current and Voltage Regulator
5) Starter
[2] Battery - The first purpose of an battery is to provide power for starting your vehicle. It also acts as a surge protector for the car's computer and provides power for short-term use of things like lights, stereo, GPS or wipers when the engine is off. The car battery is part of the starting system.
Generator - It’s responsible for generating electricity to charge the battery while the engine is running. They also keep the electrical components in the vehicle charged.
Starter - A starter or starter motor is an electrical device that used to rotate (crank) internal combustion engines so as to initiate the engine’s operation under its own power. As soon as the engine begins to run, it gets disconnected from the engine, which now relies on the combustion process.
Distributor - A distributor is an enclosed rotating shaft used in spark-ignition internal combustion engines that have mechanically-timed ignition. The distributor's main function is to route secondary, or high voltage, current from the ignition coil to the spark plugs in the correct firing order, and for the correct amount of time.
[3] Fuses should be at least 25% larger than the maximum continuous current you plan to draw (in this case it is 10A), Therefore probably 13A.
[4] Considering 12V and Load=500Watt
Capacity load x time = 500x 24 hours = 12000 Wh.
In Ah we get 12000Wh/12V = 1000Ah.
[5] Dome light and Platc light ( I think this is Plastic light) are connected in parallel. The advantage to wiring the appliances in parallel, rather than in a series circuit, is that electricity will continue to flow through the circuit even if one appliance fails.
[6] Battery and ammeter are connected in series. (It is a very low resistance device, nearly a zero) If it is connected in parallel, it would draw most of the current and would get damaged. Hence it is connected in series.
