Project 2 Thermal modeling of battery pack

Objective :-

For a 10 cell series lithium ion battery model, simulate the thermal effects and compare life cycle performance at various temperatures, charge & discharge rates using MATLAB.

Report

Model

  • Firstly we took 10 table based battery and then made it to show SOC and thermal Port
  • The 10 batteries are connected in series
  • Now we conected a voltage sensor parallel to the circuit and used a goto block to get the voltage signal in the scope
  • The controlled current source is connect to the battery, also a current sensor is connected to the battery to measure the current, which is in turn connected to a scope using a goto block
  • The cuurent is now formulated in columbic efficiency formulae to get the SOC of the pack
  • A signal builder is connected the current source to input a contant current source
  • Now at the thermal port the temperature source is connected to give the external temperature and it is not connected directly it is connected through the convective heat transfer block. There a temperature sensor is connected to measure the temperature of the battery pack, which is connected to the scope using a goto block
  • An Electrical reference, solver configuration and a thermal reference is also added

Resultant Plot

Here as Temperature increases the the soc decreases at constant rate

Taking the temp as 800
