Project 2 Fender

BIW part 10- FENDER DESIGN Challenge
AIM :
Design the fender by using the given class A surface and consider all the design parameters for the dip, bmper, pillar, and sill mounting areas.

INTRODUCTION :

In this project, a car fender will be deigned. A car's fender is a part that shields and frames the wheels, preventing mud, water and other particles from splashing on them. Most contemporary cars have fenders on their front wheels. To prevent objects from being thrown into the air by rotating wheels, fenders are mounted on the sides of the vehicle and frame the wheel well. To prevent the tyres from kicking up mud, gravel, and other road debris, it serves this purpose. If there was nothing covering the wheels, the rotating tyres would kick up all kinds of debris. The fender not only cover your car body from road debris, but it protect this debris from being thrown up at other vehicles or pedestrians on the road. This is why cars with massive, oversized tyres are frequently required by law to have fender flares installed.

Type of Bumper

FULL BUMPER TYPE

In the present time, this type is not much used in the industry, because it required more material, more wight and large scrap.

HALF BUMPER TYPE

This type are used in the present car, because it required less material, and small blank size with very less scrap as compared with full bumper type.

MOUNTING REGIONS ON FENDER :

There are total 5 mounting regions on the fende by which it can be connected through the car body.-

A- pillar mounting

Sill mounting

Bumper mounting

Drip mounting

Baffle mounting

DESIGN OF different MOUNTING AREA :

Drip area mounting

The area through which the fender is attached to the engine compartment using the fasteners. It is the important mounting unit of the fender. It is connected with the engine compartment , therefore the lot of design constraints are to be followed. While designing the fender While designing the drip area we have to initially leave 200-300 mm for cowl top For placing the headlamp we have to leave at least 150 mm at the front while designing the fender

Bumper mounting area

In this mounting the fender connecs with the bumper. It must be very rigid.

Sill mount

This area is the bottom part of the fender,as presented in the below figure. Sill is the panel directly below the door supporting the floor and may be used to combine the floor and the body . The bottom end of the fender is mounted on the sill body for reinforcement of the fender panel , thus the sill mounting position is designed with holes and emboss .

Pillar Area

The A -pillar is the structural pillar that combines the body to the roof . this make the sides of the windshield rest . front fenders are fastened to the A -pillar to form a stable structure

Baffle mounting

DIFFERENT VIEWS OF FENDER :

Conclusions:

The fender model is designed by considering all the design parameter with a thickness of 0.75mm with the given mounts and embosses.
