Project 2_Design & Analysis of a Hostel building at Guwahati, Assam

AIM :

Students will have to produce the following:

  • Etabs model for the two blocks on either side of the expansion gap
  • Foundation details illustrating the pile & pile cap reinforcement
  • Tie beam details connecting the pile caps
  • Column reinforcement
  • Framing plan for typical floor
  • Beam reinforcements for ground floor.

PROCEDURE:

open etabs and enter the grids and storeys as per the plan and click ok.

define the materials i.e concrete and rebars along with their grades.

enter the column and beam sizes as per the schedule and enter their depths and breadths.

define the slab properties and its thickness.

define the mass source ,reduce the live load to 25%.

3d model of the entire plan is obtained.

check for analysis and click on concrete frame design, we get the Ast values, based on that calculate the no. of bars in beam and column.

after calculation draw the obtained number of bars in autocad ,i.e detailing of bars is represented in the autocad.

axial load values are obtained from the etabs as shown above.

base plan of the layout is exported to the SAFE, and enter the material properties same just like ETABS.

then draw the plan of footing and along with columns and piles.

no. of piles = axial load / pile capacity

size of footing = axial load / SBC

three components we are using here i.e piles, pile cap and columns.

define them properly using define option.

and run the analysis ,now go to the display and dropdown punching shear.

punching shear values should be less than 1 ,which we can see here, therefore analysis is correct.

settlement values of all the footings should be within 25mm, here also the analysis is correct.

select all the piles and assign spring constant =EA/L

= 490KN/mm.

now check for reaction forces on piles which should be less than pile capacity i.e 280kn.

SBC we are assuming here as 150kn/m.

we can see these values are less than pile capacity, hence analysis is correct.
