Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT
1) Use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below
Solution:
Aim: To list the shortcut keys of the following :
a. Using 3D model create a section box
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view
f. To select the previously selected items
g. To add annotations to the model views
h. To bring the model elements in line
i. To rotate the model elements
j. To move an object to another location
k. To copy a model element
l. To mirror an element about an axis
m. To create an array of model elements
The shortcut keys to the corresponding functions are listed below :
a. Using 3D model create a section box : BX
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout : CS
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views : TL
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view : VG
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view : VR
f. To select the previously selected items : Ctrl + <
g. To add annotations to the model views : DI
h. To bring the model elements in line : AL
i. To rotate the model elements : RO
j. To move an object to another location : MV
k. To copy a model element : CO
l. To mirror an element about an axis : MM
m. To create an array of model elements : AR
2) Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood
Solution:
Aim: Using Revit and project to prepare a schedule for the following:
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood
Procedure:
1. Open the Revit project created previously.
2. Under the view tab, select schedules and the schedules/quantities.

3. Under the new schedule dialogue box, select walls.

4. Now, under schedule properties select the required fields.

5. The wall schedule prepared is shown below:

6. Sililarly, for Door schedule: Select Doors.

7. Select the required fields.

8. The door schedule prepared is shown below:

9. Similarly for windows schedule, select windows under schedules/quantities.

10. Select the required feilds.

11. The window schedule prepared is shown below:

12. For part d) select material takeoff under schedules/quantities.

13. Under the new schedule dialogue box, select floor.

14. Select the required fileds.

15. The floor material schedule is shown below:

16. For door material schedule, select doors under material takeoff.

17. Select the required fields.

18. The door material schedule is shown below:

Result:
The desired schedules of walls, doors, windows and materials have been prepared.
3) Using Revit Calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.
Solution:
Aim: To calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.
Procedure:
1. Under the view tab, select schedule>> schedule/quantities.

2. Select rooms in the new schedule dialogue box as shown.

3. Select the required fields.

Result:
The Room schedule is preapared and shown below:

4) Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available in the internet, prepare total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Take off
Solution:
Aim: To prepare total cost of materials used in the project.
Procedure:
1. Under the view tab, select schedule >> material takeoff.

2. Select the category as walls.

3. And then select the required parameters.

4. After adding the parameters add the total cost as a calculated quantity.

5. The wall schedule along with the total cost is shown below:

6. Similarly, follow the same procedure for Doors, windows, floor and furnitures.
Result:
The Schedules for individual materials along with their total cost has been prepared.

5) Using the concept of Visual Programming discussed in class, list a flowchart for the following scenario
a. How to decide framings for a structure using Dynamo ?
b. If there is no water coming from the pipes
c. If request for money from client has been declined for the project
Solution:
a)
b) .

c)
6) List the parameters associated with each model element
a. Wall
b. Floor
c. Door
d. Window
e. Table
f. Building
Solution: Parameters associated with each model elements are as follows:
a) Walls:
- Wall type
- Wall description
- Wall length
- Wall thickness
- Wall height
- Wall material
- Wall location
- Material cost
b) Floor:
- Floor type
