Preparing Schedule & Cost Estimation for a building using REVIT
1) Use the shortcut keys in Revit discussed in class to complete the following tasks and list them below
a. Using 3D model create a section box
b. To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout
c. To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views
d. To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view
e. To increase the range of visibility in a plan view
f. To select the previously selected items
g. To add annotations to the model views
h. To bring the model elements in line
i. To rotate the model elements
j. To move an object to another location
k. To copy a model element
l. To mirror an element about an axis
m. To create an array of model elements
Answer :
- Using 3D model create a section box is BX
- To create similar doors and windows in a floor plan layout is CS
- To reduce the thickness of lines visible in plan views is TL
- To apply override settings to a floor in the model section view is VG (Visibility Graphics)
- To increase the range of visibility in a plan view is VR
- To select the previously selected items is ctrl + <
- To add annotations to the model views is DI
- To bring the model elements in line is AL
- To rotate the model elements is RO
- To move an object to another location is MO
- To copy a model element is CO
- To mirror an element about an axis is MM
- To create an array of model elements is AR
2) Using Revit and the project used from week 6 to 8 prepare a schedule for the following
a. Walls
b. Doors
c. Windows
d. Material – Concrete/Wood
Answer :
Aim :
To prepare a schedule for walls, doors, windows and material - concrete/wood.
Procedure :
- Open the previous model
- Go to view tab and select 'Schedule' tool

- From the drop down select "schedule/Quantity"

- New schedule dialog box will appear

- In the category select wall and give OK

- Now in schedule properties dialog box, select the parameters which you want to involve in the Schedule
- And press OK

- Wall schedule will be displayed in the revit screen
- Repeat the same steps to create schedules for doors windows and materials

3) Using Revit Calculate area and volume of each room in the model with appropriate room tags applied to each room. Prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room.
Answer :
Aim :
To prepare a schedule report for area and volume of each room
Procedure :
Preparing room schedule :
- Give each room a "Room Tag".
- Rename each room tag as per choice by double clicking on it.
- Go to the "View" Tab and Select the "Schedule" Tool.
- From the drop down select "Schedule/Quantity".

- New Schedule Dialog Box will appear.
- In the category, Select "Room" and click "OK".

- Now, in the schedule properties dialog box, Select the Parameters which you wants to involve in the Schedule.
- Select Number, Name, Area, Perimeter, Volume and count.
- Press "OK".

- Schedule report for area and volume of each room will be diplayed in the Revit Screen.
Result :

4) Using the same schedule using the unit cost rate for materials available in the internet, prepare total cost of materials used in the project
a. Total Cost of Materials
b. Individual Material Take off
Aim :
To prepare a schedule which includes total cost of materials used in the project
Procedure :
Preparing schedule :
- Select the element which user wanted to involve in the schedule
- Go to "edit type" in properties and give the cost value to the element by comparing the rate of that element from the internet
- Go to 'view' tab and select the "schedule" tool
- From the drop down select the "Material takeoff"

- Select the element whose schedule is to be prepared
- Select the parameter which user wants to involve with the cost parameter
Doors properties parameter :

- Click OK
- Repeat the same steps to create the schedules for windows, walls and floor
