Planetary Gear
Objective:-
- to import/design and assemble planetary gears, ring gear, sun gear and carrier by giving required constraints.(using ANSI metric unit)
- to run the simulation and study the motion analysis of the whole assembly.
- to plot angular velocity graph from the motion analysis(for different cases) and conclude results.
Introduction:-
- Planetary gear is also known as Epicyclic Gear Train. It is a gear system which consists of one or more planet gears, one central sun gear, and one ring gear and the planetary gears and sun gears output is given to carrier.
- It is based on the principle that when the power or torque is given to Ring gear, Sun gear or the carrier then it causes the transfer of motion by making the other gears rotate.
- Uses:-
- These kind of gears are used to provide high torque to the drive wheels, it is used in tractors, bycycles, in bycycles the Sun gear is fixed, varing the fixing gear it can be used in many automotives.
Theory:-
- In this project we imported gears from the "Desisn library","Toolbox","Add in now" in ANSI metric system the Power transmission components, such as spur gears and internal spur gear for Sun gear, Planet gears and Ring gear in solidwprks.
- Then we Designed the Carrier as based on the dimensions of planet gear and sun gear.
- Then in assembly we assembled the Carrier first by first constraining the plane on which we neended the rotation motion of the model, then we constrained the other not required linear motions by using axis of the carrier and the other two planes and making them coincident,So that the carrier had left with only one degree of freedom i.e., the rotational motion along the Z- axis.

we used these formulas for calculations:-
|
- Then we imported the gears from design library with following dimensions
- For Ring gear:-
- Module= 2.5
- No. Of teeth= 46
- Face Width= 20mm
- Pressure angle= 20°
- Pitch diameter= (2.5*46)= 115mm

- For Sun gear:-
- Module= 2.5
- No. of teeth= 14
- Nominal shaft diameter= 20mm
- Face Width= 20mm
- Pressure angle= 20°
- Pitch Diameter=35mm

- For Planet Gear:-
- Module=2.5
- No. of teeth= 16
- Face Width= 20mm
- Pressure angle= 20°
- Pitch Diameter= 40mm
- Nominal shaft diameter= 25mm

- For designing the Carrier=:-
- Outer circle diameter= 115mm
- diameter of boss base for Planet= 25mm
- Diameter of boss base for the sun= 20mm
- thickness of bases for planets and sun gears are same as the face width of gear as= 20mm

- The whole assembly:-

Results:-
- Case one:-
- when the Carrier is fixed
- Input is given to sun gear
- Output is taken through Ring gear

- Case two:-
- When the Ring gear is fixed.
- Input is given to sun gear.
- Output is taken through Carrier.

- Case Three:-
- When the Sun gear is fixed.
- Input is given to Ring gear.
- Output is taken through Carrier.

Conclusions:-
- The least angular velocity is observed in case two(When the input is given to sun gear and output is taken through Carrier)
- In case 2 the angular velocity is between (268-358) degree/sec.
- Case one has greator angular velocity than Case 2
- In Case 1 the angular velocity is observed betweeen (299-399) degree/sec ( when the Carrier is fixed, input is given to sun gear, output is taken through Ring gear).
- The maximum angular is observed in Case 3 is between (994-1326) degree/sec (When the Sun gear is fixed, input is given to Ring gear, output is taken through Carrier.)
