MBD Simulation on IC Engine Valve Train
Objective
- Model the parts and assemble them in SolidWorks.
- Run the simulation using the below parameters
| Sl.No | CAM Lift (mm) | Speed (RPM) | Material |
| 1 | 3.5 | 1500 | Cast Carbon Steel |
| 2 | 6 | 1500 |
Cast Carbon Steel |
Obtain the
- Valve Lift.
- The contact force between
- Cam and Push Rod
- Pushrod and Rocker Arm
- Rocker Arm and Valve

Assembly of IC engine valve train
Input parameter
| Sl.No | CAM Lift (mm) | Speed (RPM) | Material |
| 1 | 3.5 | 1500 | Cast Carbon Steel |
| 2 | 6 | 1500 |
Cast Carbon Steel |
When CAM lift is 3.5
then L = 11
& when CAM lift is 6
then L = 13.5
Output plot when CAM lift is 3.5mm
Linear displacement of valve
Contact force b/w cam & push rod
Contact force push rod & rockar arm
Contact force rockar arm & valve (magnitude)
Contact force rockar arm & valve (x direction)
Output plot when CAM lift is 6mm
Linear displacement of valve
Contact force b/w cam & push rod
Contact force push rod & rockar arm
Contact force rockar arm & valve (magnitude)
Contact force rockar arm & valve (x direction)
Canclusion
- Valve displacement depend on the cam when the cam lift is 3.6mm then the valve displacement is less & when the cam lift is 6mm then the valve displacement is more.
- Increase in cam lift also increase in valve displacement.
- When we salect magnetiude fot the contact forces it only give the result those faces we salect. But when we salect X direction insted of magnitude it gives the different plot as compare to magnitude because in X direction their is two result one in positive direction And the other is in negative direction.
