Introduction to National Building Code and Steps in a Construction project
1) Why are building codes or standards essential for the modeling/ efficiency of drawings in Revit ?
ANS 1 - building codes are essential in revit because we don't consider them while drawing. Our model might not be approved by authorities and may get rejected. then we have to make it again. so it is always a good practise to model with codes and standards.
2) From the National Building Code list the groups that will be essential to you when you begin modeling in Autodesk Revit.
ANS 2 - there are 5 broad catagories
Group 1 - for development, building planning and related aspects
group 2 - for structural design and related aspects
group 3 - construction related aspects including safety.
group 4 - for aspects related to building services.
group 5 - for aspects related to plumbing plumbing services
3) List the five major steps that occur in project cycle . The steps should include from conceptualization of project to maintenance and final stage.
ANS 3 -
- location/siting
- conceptualization and planing
- designing and detailing
- construction execution
- maintenance and repair.
4) Give examples of different disciplines involved in construction of a project
ANS 4 - various disciplines involved in a single project
- arcitect
- civil engg
- structural engg
- electrical engg
- plumbing engg
- fire protection engg
- HVAC engg
- enviourment specialist
- town planner
- urban designer
- landscape arcitect
- security system specialist
- interior designer
- quantity surveyor
- project construction manager and various others.
5) How are buildings classified ? Place the following buildings under each category
a. Four unit apartments
b. School with capacity of 1000 students
c. A single unit shop.
d. Multi story Shopping complex
e. Steel machine factory
ANS 5- buildings are classified as residential, educational, institutional, assemble, business, mercantile, industry, storage and hazardous.
a - residential
b- educational
c - bussiness
d - mercantile
e - industry
6) Distinguish the roles of Design team and Management team
ANS 6- Design team - in a project Design team cover various parts includes site planing, construction, designing, modeling, applying electrical and plumbing fixtures and various more.
Management Team - its role is very crucial they estimate the close of the project that is being suggested by design team, so that the project doesn't exceed its limit. and hence can be altered.
7) Refer to NBC, Identify the modeling requirements for the project ( from week 4).
a. Height Limitations
b. Area Limitations
c. Room sizing
d. Wall height
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety
f. Passageway requirements
ANS 7- height- it should be less than 15m
area - should be more than 15m^2 and less than 30-40m^2.
room sizing - room area should be more than 12.5m^2
wall height - should be more than 2.75m for each floor.
thickness- should be 100mm. or more.
passageway - width not less than width of doorway and height less than 2.4m.
8) We have identified requirements for modeling from question 7, Use these numbers from code book and verify the numbers used in modeling the unit from week 2 to week 4. If the numbers are not reasonable, use the numbers obtained from the code book to create a revision of the mode.
This model resembles the actual modeling requirements for Project 1 of course work
ANS 8- all the aspects are clearly matched with codes.
