Introduction to National Building Code and Steps in a Construction project
AIM:
TO THEORETICALLY ANSWER ALL THE QUESTIONS BELOW
1) Why are building codes or standards essential for the modeling/ efficiency of drawings in Revit ?
2) From the National Building Code list the groups that will be essential to you when you begin modeling in Autodesk Revit.
3) List the five major steps that occur in project cycle . The steps should include from conceptualization of project to maintenance and final stage.
4) Give examples of different disciplines involved in construction of a project
5) How are buildings classified ? Place the following buildings under each category
a. Four unit apartments
b. School with capacity of 1000 students
c. A single unit shop.
d. Multi story Shopping complex
e. Steel machine factory
6) Distinguish the roles of Design team and Management team
7) Refer to NBC, Identify the modeling requirements for the project ( from week 4).
a. Height Limitations
b. Area Limitations
c. Room sizing
d. Wall height
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety
f. Passageway requirements
8) We have identified requirements for modeling from question 7, Use these numbers from code book and verify the numbers used in modeling the unit from week 2 to week 4. If the numbers are not reasonable, use the numbers obtained from the code book to create a revision of the mode.
This model resembles the actual modeling requirements for Project 1 of course work
RESULT:
1) Natinal building codes is essential to protect the overall health of the building for the safety of the public and residence.
a. A set of standard that are uniform to all structures.
b.It provides the construction saftey
c. Modern construction methods.
d. Provides building standards .
2) There are nine groups in national building code which is essential to begin with revtit modelling.
Group A: Residential Building
Group B: Educational Building
Group C: Assembly Building
Group D: institutional Building
Group E: Mercantile Building
Group F: Buisness Building
Group G: Storage Building
Group H: Industrial Building
Group J: Hazardous Building
3) The major steps that occur in project cycle from conceptuliaztion to final stage are:
a. Initiation: In this tage it is necessary to identify the objective if the project, check the fesibility of the project and identify the major deliverable.
b. Planning: During this part the large project is divided into smaller parts and the workload is distributed to various teams making sure it is achieval in required time.
c. Execution: In this phase the plan turns into action. It is to make sure the execution is done as per plan by managing budget and communicating with all the teams to complete it within time as per the plan.
d. Closure: After the project is complete this is the final phase in which we analyze the team perfomance, the project perfomance and calculate the used and unused amount of items used in the construction and to take feedbacks on the projects by various teams.
4) Different dsciplines involved in the construction of project are:
a. Construction.
b. Finance and accounting.
c. Contracts and Bid.
d. Geotechnical.
e. Management.
f. Structural.
g. Surveying.
5) Buildings are classified as per the norms of National Building Code. The latest code revised in 2005.
a. Four unit apartments- Group A: Residential Building.
b. School with capacity of 1000 students- Group B: Educational Building.
c. A single unit shop- Group E: Mercantile Building.
d. Multi story Shopping complex- Group E: Mercantile Building.
e. Steel machine factory- Group H: Industrial Building.
6) Difference between the role of Design and Management team are:
Design team:
a. Helps to finalise the plan.
b. Evalutionaries of the project.
c. Implementation of the designs.
Management Team:
a. Accomplishment of the project.
b. Execute the design.
c. Achieves the satisfactory completion of project.
7) Identifying the odelling requirements referring to the NBC for the model from week 4
a. Height Requirements: The height of the building in my model is approx 6.2 m which is less than 15 m. Hence, it follows NBC's guideline.(NBC 2005,Clause C-2.5,pg no. 43)
b. Area Requirements: The area of my model is 50'*50' which is 232 sq m which is more than 40 sq m in small town . Hence ,it follows the NBC's guideline.(NBC 2005,Clause C-2.3.1,pg no. 43)
c. Room sizing:In my model the no. of rooms is 4 which is ((37.16m2)*2+(37.16m2)*2) which is 148.64m2 which is greater than the value specified in the code. Hence, the building is safe.(NBC 2005,Clause C-3.3,pg no. 43)
d. Wall height: In my model the height of the wall is 3m which is greater the minimum wall height specified in the NBC. Hence, it is satisfied (NBC 2005,Clause F-3.4)
e. Thickness based on fire life and safety: In my model the thickness of my wall is 230 mm which is greater than the minimum thickness required . Hence, the model is safe.(NBC 2005,Table- 2)
f. Passageway requirements:In my model it satisfies all the values of passageway as per required in the table (NBC 2005,Table- 1)
8) My model satisfies all the requirements as per NBC hence no revision required or no editing required.
