Hood design-Week 2

Designing The Hood of a car by designing the outer pannel and the inner pannel using the given master section of the hood.

The above shown fig. is the given master section. Along with this the surface of the outer pannel, hinge assembly shape and striker was also given.

So to create the sheet metal panel of the hood, we first create the inner pannel for the hood with the given outer panel surface as the reference.

Then the give surface is the spiltted with yz plane.

Then that slit is offsetted, and the boundary is parallel curved and extruded, so that it can be cutted.

These same procedure is done again to create the next surface.

Then these two surfaces are joined with a surface which connects this both surfaces together.

This same procedure is used to make the base surface to get the shape of the iner pannel.

Embossing is provided for giving strength and stiffness to the hood and it also helps to distribute the forces and reduce the energy at the time of the collision to ensure the safety of pedestrians. For creating the embossed there is no standard but one thing we have to keep in mind is that the embossed should be provided along Y or V direction.

As the gap between the outer and inner pannel is more, so more emboss is made to reduce the distance, in order to give the hood more strength also.

To have mastic sealants, circular rounds are made in the edges.

Now to attach the hinge, the hinge assembly is first joined and solidded. Using the given hinge assembly.

Now the extract of the plain surface which gets in touch and contact with the hood is extracted from the hinge assemble and copied to the hood part, so that the extract can be used as a base reference to make the hinge placement emboss.

As the pannel suface is curved in surface, the hinge can not be placed due to the hinge alingment and the hood rotational axis. So a surface is created using a plane created parallel too the hood.

       Now the striker comes in.

To place the striker the flat back surface of the striker is extracted, as the given striker model is a ready solid part we just have to create the strikers striking axis.

The emboss for the striker is created using that extract.

The inner pannel is ready to make solid by thickning.

Now the outer pannel is worked in to form the required shape.

It is first exrapotaled then the edge is extruded and trimed and top and side cover shape is done, then the bottom hinge cover is made my offsetting the exrapolated surface then cutted with a length accordingly then trimed, then the edge is filleted to give it a curved look surface.

A relife section for the rollers in coners are given on both the sharp conners. So refile corners are sketched and spitted.

This shape is then offsetted inwards and edge sweeped done to make it a closed surface.

Then both the pannels, outer and inner are made solid using thicken and close surface options, to the required dimensions given.

Now all the parts are assembled, the hood componemt (outer and inner pannel), the hingle assembly, and the striker.

First the hood part is brought and fixed.

Then the hinge assembly is brought and constrained with the hood pannel, with reference to the hood axis.

Now the hinge axis is created, and the hood rotational and striker line are created.

Now the striker is brought in and constrained withthe respective place and coincide with the striking line built.

      The final output:
