Challenge

Hood design-Week 2

Hood is generaly known as bonnet whicgh is used as a canopy for engine but it also plays a key role in aesthetics and safety. Here in this challenge I was supposed to make the hood assembly eith the given inputs like outer panel, hinge assembly and striker along with the master section.

Here the outer panel is of thickness .75mm and inner panel is of 1.5mm. The inner panel act as the basic skeleton of the hood assembly. We used various commands of UGNX to create the assembly . The features liker Wave geometry linker made it very easy to initiate the design process.

The the inner panel is made by sheet metal forming process called deep drawing wthere a die is used to form the sheetmetal into desired shape. Since for the manufacturing of die we need to take into accounjt of tooling so we have to keep the draft more than 7 degree.

Once the inner pannel is formed it needs to be joinned with the outer pannel using joining operation xcalled with hemming using hemming glue, Since hemming is done only in the periphery of the hood we use mastics in between to avoid vibration and also to provide strength.

The for the assembly of the hinge we need a flat surface with 0 local radius so we make that with a flat datum reference and also after assemblying the hinge we use the hinge rotating center pont to make a cicle and take a tangent from that circle to assemble the striker, so that we can assign the correct tragectory for that
