Hood

Introduction

The opening body panel which covers the front-engine components is termed to be hood. Mainly the hood consists of four components. They are:

• Outer Hood Panel
• Inner Hood panel
• Hinges and
• Striker
• Latch Striker.
•

The above image is the demonstration of support rod which is operated manually.

The above image is the demonstration of Gas stay which is operated by actuator by means of Gas.

The Following things needs to be considered while designing the hood.

• Design requirements for the hood and its Components.
• Functional Requirements.
• Important Regulation.
• Hood Balancer.
• Hood hinge and its Function.
• GAP and FLUSHNESS.
• Joining operations to be followed.

HEMMING, SPOT WELDING, GLUING and REVETING.

Hood Head Zone for lock Stricker.

The Lock Stricker allow us to open the Engine Compartment. Depending upon the height of the people, the opening angle is provided. In Asian Countries, the heights of people are less than the Western and European Countries. Therefore, the opening angle is less in Asian Countries.

Pedestrian Safety (Wrap Around Distance)

When the Car Crashes on the Pedestrian, the whole human body wraps around the frontal portion of the car. The distance from the ground to the zone where the human head gets impacted is called Wrap around distance. The head impact zone depends on the height of the individual.

Design Procedure.

• For this hood designing, the master sketch was provided which developed from stylish team.
• The Cad model was developed accordingly.
• The Re-inforcement was applied to increase the strength of inner pannel where required.Normaly,Re inforcement is done where the component is added. In this design,I have applied at latch striker and Hinge assembly point.
