DESIGN OF CAR HOOD

What is Hood?

A car hood is the hinged cover that rests over the engine bay of a front-engine vehicle. The car hood protects the engine and connected parts from the elements while providing easy access for repairs and Maintenance.

Hood Outer Panel

It is an Outer Aesthetic Part of the Hood Assembly.

Hood Inner Panel

It is An inner Panel of the Hood Where hinge Assembly and Strikers Are mounted,

It use to Lock Hood Panel

Use To Connect Hood With Body.

Deep Draw Metal Forming Process

Deep draw stamping is a machining process that process a flat blanking strip with a certain shape obtained after punching into various open hollow parts or reduces the diameter of the open hollow parts and increases the height. The deep drawing process can be used to manufacture cylindrical, stepped, tapered, spherical, box-shaped and other irregularly shaped thin-walled parts.

Hemming Process

Hemming is a forming operation in which the edges of the sheet are folded or folded over another part in order to achieve a tight fit. Normally hemming operations are used to connect parts together, to improve the appearance of a part and to reinforce part edges.

Deciding placement of Striker:

To decide the position of the striker on the hood inner panel, first we have to fixed the position of hinges on the hood inner panel. Once it is done then take construct two points one on each hinge by taking centre point of hinge. Then draw a line starting from one point to another point of hinge, this line forms our hinge axis along which our hood will rotate when we open or close the hood.

Now, by taking midpoint of this line draw a circle normal to the line take approximate diameter of the circle initially, after that draw a line which is tangent to the circle also draw a vertical line whose one end gets coincident with the end point of tangent line. This forms the trajectory path of our hood.

Furthermore, construct similar line on striker taking midpoint and constraint this line with the trajectory path as shown below.
