Foundation Design using SAFE
1. AIM: To Analyse and model Isolated footing as per calculations by using SAFE.
Procedure:
Step 1:
- Open SAFE software
- Set the units as per requirement

Step 2:
- Select structural object
- Click on Custom grid spacing

Step 3:
- Enter the distance along the directions and slab thickness

Step 4:
- View of footing as per grid data

Step 5:
- Go to define select material properties

Step 6:
- Add materials(concrete)

Step 7:
- Similarly add material(steel)

Step 8:
- Add slab properties and modify as footing

Step 9:
- Add slab properties and modify as stiff1

Step 10:
- Go to define select load patterns

Step 11:
- Go to define select load combinations

Step 12:
- Click on 3D view

Step 13:
- Run the analysis

Step 14:
- Click on punching shear Design/Check

Step 15:
- Reinforcement in both directions

RESULT: Isolated footing is designed using SAFE.
2. Aim: To design the pile cap on SAFE and to evaluate pile group to be used, depth of the pile cap, longitudinal steel on top and bottom face in both directions.
Procedure:
Pile length = 16m
Diameter = 500mm
SBC = 200KN
M25 grade concrete
Column size = 600mm*600mm
Axial load = 1175 KN
No.of piles = axial load/capacity of single pile = 1175/200 = 5.8 = 6piles
Spring constant = EA/L = 25000*3.14*500*500/16000 = 306795
Min spacing between pile = 2.5*500 = 1250mm
Edge spacing = 200mm
Step 1:

Step 2:
- Design preferences

Step 3:
-
select grid option x direction 2900mm, y direction 1650mm

Step 4:
- View as per grid data

Step 5:
- Add materials

Step 6:
- Add slab properties

Step 7:
- Slab is added to model

Step 8:
- Draw points

Step 9:
- Add piles 200mm

Step 10:
- Draw column of 600*600mm

Step 11:
- Add springs(spring constant)

Step 12:
- Loads are added(dead+live)

Step 13:
- Select rebar material in load cases

Step 14:
- Add load combination data as COMBO

Step 15:
- Run the analysis

Step 16:
- Punching shear design capacities

Step 17:
- Forces acted on it Joint reaction diagram

Step 18:
- Run analysis

Result: Pile cap foundation is designed using SAFE software.
