Flow over a cylinder

Title:- flow over a cylinder

objective:- simulation of flow over a cylinder represents how the flow reacts over the cylinder, SolidWorks and other technical software have the ability to get results from this type of simulation rest of the others are using SolidWorks to get results of the simulation. during this experiment, we learn what is reaction Reynolds number with flow over the cylinders.

terminology

Reynolds number:-

The Reynolds number represents the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces and is a convenient parameter for predicting if a flow condition will be laminar or turbulent. It is defined as a characteristic length multiplied by a characteristic velocity and divided by the kinematic viscosity.

Key Facts

  • Osborn Reynolds discovered that the flow regime depends mainly on the ratio of the inertia forces to viscous forces in the fluid.
  • When the viscous forces are dominant (slow flow, low Re), they are sufficient to keep all the fluid particles in line, then the flow is laminar.
  • When the inertial forces dominate over the viscous forces (when the fluid flows faster and Re is larger), the flow is turbulent.
  • It is defined as:in which V is the mean flow velocity, D is a characteristic linear dimension, ρ fluid density, μ dynamic viscosity, and ν kinematic viscosity.
  • The Reynolds number can be used to compare a real situation (e.g., airflow around an airfoil and water flow in a pipe) with a small-scale model.

Reynold number:- Re=VD/v

case 1

re =100

v=?

D= 1 m

v= 1.6*10-5 m2/s

v = 1.6 m/s

case 2

re =120

v=?

D= 1 m

v= 1.6*10-5 m2/s

v = 1.92 ms

analysis frame 1 s to 2 s

v = 1.92 ms

case 3

re =140

v=?

D= 1 m

v= 1.6*10-5 m2/s

v = 2.4 m/s

case 4

re =200

v=?

D= 1 m

v= 1.6*10-5 m2/s

v = 3.2 m/s

conclusion:- To help with simulation we can find the exact results of fluid flow, in SolidWorks I have found result for fluid flow
