Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender Design Regulations -
1. Japan Requirement-
- Measure distance 'L' of tire, cap, hub & fender in different position within area 'K' and prepare clearence chart to validate design.
- Clearence must be greater than 5mm in all position.
- The value must be greater than 5mm at a line 30° Left of the car and 50° right of the car from central vertical axis of axis of wheel.
2. European Requirement-
- Measure the distance 'L' at all section and prepare the chart to validate design.
- Distance 'L' should be greater than 10mm at all section SA-SA, SB-SB, SC-SC, SD-SD, SE-SE to satisfy the european standard.
- Wheel guard requirement- The value of a shall be more than 5mm at line 30° on left of wheel vertical axis and 50° right of wheel vertical axis.
3. US Requirement-
- Making of clearence check details on all position from 100* to 100* and make clearence check table.
- All value should be greater than 5mm to validate design.
- The valueof a shall be more than 5mm at a line 30° on left of wheel vertical axis and 50° right of wheel vertical axis.
Wheel Arch Area Calcuation-

For calculation of wheel arch area we have to create sketch on the outermost face of the wheel-
1] The Measuring 'L' for the given wheel and fender at SB:-
The value of 'L' at SB= 10.0002 mm.
2] The Measuring 'L' for the given wheel and fender at SA:-
The value of 'L' at SA= 9.9489 mm.
3] The Measuring 'L' for the given wheel and fender at SC:-
The value of 'L' at SC= 0.120758 mm.
4] The Measuring 'L' for the given wheel and fender at SD:-
The value of 'L' at SD= 2.8861 mm.
5] The Measuring 'L' for the given wheel and fender at SE:-
The value of 'L' at SE= 5.9948 mm.

Conclusion:-
1. From the above table we have conclude that the fender does not pass the japan standard as Clearence value must be greater than 5mm.
2. From the above table we have conclude that the fender does not pass the European standard as Clearence value must be greater than 10mm.
