Challenge

Week 8 - Challenge 1 - Base Bracket Design

Creation of Plastic component - Base Bracket, Tooling Axis, Draft analysis

Objective:

The main objective of this challenge is to create the Base Bracket and to create B-Surface, C-Surface from Class-A surface and perform draft analysis for both Class-A surface and the final output which is plastic component.

Thickness of component - 2.5mm

Class A -

To Check The Connectivity of Class-A surface:

Checking the connectivity of the surface, this can be done by creating boundaries or by simply using the join option such that any openings can be easily visualized.

Tooling axis Creation:

The direction in which the mold or core and cavity opens is the tooling axis.

Tooling Axis is decide as by doing the Draft analysis

Draft Analysis -

The draft angle is the amount of taper for molded perpendicular to the parting line. It can be measured in degrees or mm/mm (in/in).

Analyse visually for the best possible tooling axis.

The draft analysis technique is used to analyze whether our part model created in CAD is manufacturable based on the draft condition applied.

Here the part should get easily removed from the Mold (in case of plastic).

With draft analysis, we can verify draft angles, examine angle changes within a face, as well as locate parting lines, injection, and ejection surfaces in parts.

Class B Surafce -

The Class B finish is a quality finish with only minimal imperfections. A Class B finish is the most common finish for exterior surfaces.

It is normally specified on surfaces such as external covers, panels, and parts that are fairly prominent.

Class-B surface is created by extracting each walls and un-trimming and extrapolating the walls to obtain the shape by trimming the excess surfaces and offsetting it to certain distance based on the thickness of the model and giving fillets wherever it is necessary. The offset surface will be the B-Surface.

C-Surface:

The surface created using the sweep option by sweeping the boundaries of A-surface perpandicular to the class A to connect from A to B-surface is called C-Surface.

Using the B and C Surfaces a closed surface will be formed by trimming the excess surfaces.

The final trim is check by using boundary command if this showing error that means its ok and not having any open surface.
