Week 8 - Challenge 4 - Bumper
Creation of Plastic component - Bumper, Tooling Axis, Draft analysis
Objective:
The main objective of this challenge is to create the Bumper and to create B-Surface, C-Surface from Class-A surface and perform draft analysis for both Class-A surface and the final output which is plastic component.
Thickness of component - 3mm
Class A -
To Check The Connectivity of Class-A surface:
Checking the connectivity of the surface, this can be done by creating boundaries or by simply using the join option such that any openings can be easily visualized.
Tooling axis:
The direction in which the mold or core and cavity opens is the tooling axis.
Tooling Axis is decide as by doing the Draft analysis
Draft analysis -
The Draft Analysis command enables us to detect if the part that drafted will be easily removed. This type of analysis is performed based on color ranges identifying zones on the analyzed element where the deviation from the draft direction at any point, corresponds to specified values.
With draft analysis, draft angles are verify, examine angle changes within a face, as well as locate parting lines, injection, and ejection surfaces in parts.
Usually draft 3 degrees is maintained.
Compass is used to define the draft direction.
Class-B surface:
Class-B surface is created by extracting each walls and un-trimming and extrapolating the walls to obtain the shape by trimming the excess surfaces and offsetting it to certain distance based on the thickness of the model and giving fillets wherever it is necessary. The offset surface will be the B-Surface.
C-Surface:
The surface created using the sweep option by sweeping the boundaries of A-surface perpandicular to the class A to connect from A to B-surface is called C-Surface.
Using the B and C Surfaces a closed surface will be formed by trimming the excess surfaces.
The final trim is check by using boundary command if this showing error that means its ok and not having any open surface.
