Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender:
The fender frames the wheel well of a car, motorbike, or other type of vehicle . Its main objective is to stop the rotating wheel from throwing material like sand, dirt, gravel, liquids, and other road spray into the air. Since fenders are generally rigid, contact with the road can damage parts. The important aim of a car's fenders is to protect the wheels from damage while also shielding the wheels from the debris that might result from a car's spinning wheels moving at high speeds when it is moving.
Wheel Arch:
The wheel arch is the semicircular portion of the fender that sits over the car's wheel. The wheel arch of a fender should be designed in such a way as to shelter the wheels and guard against stone, mud, and water particles while also shielding pedestrians and the passenger compartment. The wheel arch and fenders of the vehicle must meet the criteria and requirements established by the various nations for it to be allowed to operate there.
Fender wheel Arc Regulation:
- European Regulation:
According to European law, there must be more than 10mm of space between the fender and the tyre profile. The value is determined by projecting a point 30 degrees forward and 50 degrees backward, respectively. The clearance measured at points a and b in five different tyre positions is satisfactory. However, there is a negative sign at points c, d, and e that indicated the interference of a wheel arch with a tyre.
- Japanese Regulation:
According to Japanese regulations, there must be more than 5mm of space between the tyre and the fender. The projected sites to be measured are at angles of 30° and 50°, respectively, forward and backward.
- US Regulation:
According to US regulations, there must be more than 5mm of space between the tyre and the fender. The measurement points are projected at angles of 0° forward and 100°, respectively. As a result, 10° are separated into each place. So, about 21 different locations are used to estimate the anticipated distances.

Conclusion:
We can conclude from the above results that the Fender does not pass the European Regulations because the minimum clearance between the fender arch wheel and the outermost wheel is 10 mm and this design does not meet this minimum clearance, resulting in this fender failing the European Regulation standard.
