Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

REPORT

Wheel arch is a semicircular profile above wheels designed for enclosing tire within the fender. The wheel arch is designed considering all possible motions the tire undergoes while the vehicle is in motion.

The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender. Corrosion had occurred around the splash plate at the back of the wheel arch. The car has big, high-definition headlights that extend to the wheel arch.

there is a lot of standards is used to calculate the wheel arch. japan resgulations, european regulations, US regulations etc.

here we are discussing about european regulations.

EUROPEAN REGULATIONS

here the distance between tyre centre and outer most edge of fender should be greater than 10 mm to satisfy the european regulations.

JAPAN REGULATIONS

Here the length between wheel centre and outer most edge of fender should be 5mm to satisfy japan regulations. if this requirment not acheived we need to inform to the fender styling team.

US REGULATIONS

In US regulation we are must check the distance between tyre centre and outer most edge of fender in all most area of wheel arch that is from -20 degree onwards.

Now we can discuss whether the given fender is satisfying or not the european regulations.

Distance L at SA = 9.9489 <10 mm

Distance L at SB = 10 = 10mm

Distance L at SC = -0.11366 < 10mm

Distance L at SD = -2.8815 < 10mm

Distance L at SE = -5.9751 < 10mm

DISTANCE 'L'=>10mm RESULT
SA 9.9489 NO
SB 10 YES
SC -0.11366 NO
SD -2.8815 NO
SE -5.9751 NO

CONCLUSION

Here we can see that only distance SB is satisfying the european regulations. the remaining values all are less than 10mm. so we need to take changes in class A.
