WHEEL ARCH AREA CALCULATION IN FENDER DESIGN USING NX CAD

Objective:

To calculate wheel arch area in fender design of european regulations and prove whether the car will pass the standards or not.

Introduction:

Its function to protect the car from sticky materials such as mud ,stones and for safety of pedestrians during accidents. It also partially provide power transmission from the wheel suspension to car body and also splash protection for cabin ,engine compartment.

Wheel arch regulations and standards:

The regulations and standards for wheel arch will vary in different countries according to road conditions and situation. we shall see for japan ,european and u.s standards.

japan standards

• Measure clearance "L" of tire,hub,cap and fender in three different positions within area K .Clearnce should be greater than 5mm in all three positions.

European standard

• Measure clearance"L" is at five sections (SA,SB,SC,SD,SE) and clearance should be greater than 10mm.

U S standard

• Measure clearance is from all postions and clearnce should be greater than 5mm.

Analysis using European standard :

By using European standard we shall see that the given wheel arch below will meet the standards by analysing clearance "L". According the five sections of given wheel arch (SA,SB,SC,SD,SE) the clearance should be greater than 10mm.

Result:

All the five sections SA,SB,SC,SD,SE in wheel arch satisfies european standard by having Measure clearance"L" above 10mm.The car will pass the European standard.
