Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
WHEEL ARCH GAP CALCULATION
- Objective:
It covers the wheel of the vehicle to prevent rocks & other unwanted particles to be thrown or splashed at pedestrians & other vehicles. All other regions have their own standards to minimize accidents or mishap.
There are 3 main regulations out there:
- Japan regulation.
- European regulation.
- U.S. regulation.
We'll take in account for the European region to verify the distance between the wheel & the fender. The distance should be greater than 10mm for the following sections
- SA
- SB
- SC
- SD &
- SE.
- Tabular Elaboration:
| Section | Required | Actual | Remarks |
| SB | 10 | 10.000 | Pass |
| SA | 10 | 9.949 | Pass |
| SC | 10 | -0.112 | Fail |
| SD | 10 | -2.887 | Fail |
| SE | 10 | -5.997 | Fail |
- Below are some images best describes the gap between wheel & wheel arch:

- Starting from the left, the first point at an angle of 30degrees is Section SB.
- The Middle one is Section SA.
- Point at an angle of 50degree is Section SC.
- The point in the middle is the Section SD.
- The point on the left hand side at a distance of 150 is Section SE.

Section SB - Gap - 10.000mm

Section SA - Gap - 9.949mm

Section SC - Gap - 0.112mm

Section SD - Gap - 2.887mm

Section SE - Gap - 5.997mm
- Conclusion:
This design does not completely meets the regulations for the European standards as it has 3 sections which not comply with the design.
This fender is not going to be production ready or can't be manufactured.
The styling & designing team has to be work on this fender to meets all the European regulations.
