Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
FENDER REGULATIONS
Fender Wheelarch Regulations
For every region there is a regulation for wheelarch of the fender for pedestrian safety, Basically the 'L' & 'a' value is calculated and the measurement should be according to the regulations. The 'L' is the vertical distance from the wheel arch area to the wheel, where as the 'a' value is the horizontal distance from the wheel arch area to the wheel.
For egsample, In european fender wheel arch regulations the L value should be more that 10mm and the a value should be more than 5mm.
Fender wheelarch calculatons
Given data -

The position of the wheel and the fender is given to us as a part file as shown in the image above
These are the lines and points made and projected according to requirement to calculate the measurements of vertical and horizontal distance from wheel arch to tyre. -

We have made five points by giving the names section a , b , c , d , e respectively
Section a
'L' Measurement

'a' Measurement

Section b
'L' Measurement

'a' Measurement

Section c
'L' Measurement

'a' Measurement

Section d
'L' Measurement

'a' Measurement

Section e
'L' Measurement

'a' Measurement

Tabuar Column Measurements
As per european regulations
| Sections | Required 'L' | Measured 'L' | Required 'a' | Measured 'a' |
| section a | 10mm | 9.94mm | 5mm | 32.5mm |
| section b | 10mm | 10mm | 5mm | 49.6mm |
| section c | 10mm | 0.113mm | 5mm | 43.3mm |
| section d | 10mm | -2.88mm | 5mm | 47.6mm |
| section e | 10mm | -5.99mm | 5mm | 52.3mm |
Conclusion
So as per the european regulations only section b 'L' measurement is right rest all fail.
