Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.

Aim:
To calculate the Fender Wheel Arch area, to pass the European standards.
Objective:
Create an intersection point according to the given degree angle.
Follow European standards to prove the design is valid.
Tabulate the results to conclude the final result.
Introduction:
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle, or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road sprays from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
Fender Wheel Arch:
Fender Wheel Arch is the sem-circular part positioned above the wheel of the vehicle.
The most important body was a change that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender.
The car was large in size, with high-definition headlights that extended to the wheel arch.
Fender Safety:
The fender is a part of the car, it is also used to protect the side of the engine compartment.
Pedestrian safety is also considered while designing a wheel arch in a fender since the debris in the wheel shouldn't hit them in the motion of the car.
Fender is also reduced pedestrian injury when there is a pedestrian-vehicle crash and prevents the throwing up of debris in nearby vehicles.
Types of fender:
There are two types of fenders.
- Full Bumper.
- Half Bumper.
Full Bumper of the fender:
The full bumper mostly covers the wheel part almost 18% as shown below.

Half Bumper of the fender:
Half Bumper helps reduce the weight of the fender at the same time it proves the safety of pedestrian moving motion as shown in the figure.

Fender design considerations:
- Drip Area.
- Wheel Arch.
- Baffle and ORVM mount area.
- Frontal crash regulations and requirements.
Standards for Designing Front Fender:
European standard for wheel arch: According to European standard clearance length for the wheel arch will be 10mm. SA, SB, SC, SD, and SE are the points on the wheel from where it is projected to the wheel arch to measure the distance.

Measuring the distance from the wheel arch to the wheel-tire:
Next, we will note down the clearance values.
- Clearance for SA = 9.9490mm.
- Clearance for SB = 10 mm.
- Clearance for SC = 0.114mm.
- Clearance for SD = 2.879mm.
- Clearance for SE = 5.875mm.
Observation tabular form mentioned below:

Final Result:
I will observe above calculation of the given fender wheel arch design will not pass the European standard in the position SA, SB, SC, SD, and SE has a clearance less than 10 mm which is the minimum requirement for European standards.
