Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM:
Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.
FENDER:
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
fender wheel arch design regulations may vary depending on the locations where the vehicle is made/purchaces. as every county follows dimaentions as per safety regulations to that perticular country.
currntly half bumper is used commonly as it saves a lot of material cost.
In japan the minimum clearnce from outermost exposed section to wheelarch must be 5mm.mesurement must be taken 30degree forward and 50degree backword from wheel hub
In case of europian standard the minimum clearence must be 10mm from outer most exposing sides of tyre profile to wheel arch. mesurement must be taken 30degree forward and 50degree backword from wheel hub.
in case of US standard the minimum clearence is 5 mm and should be mesured at all points -100 to 100 degree.
for our condition we will be using europian standard
The above image shows the reference points to be considered .
screenshot below shows the data of angles and datamplane.

Create a datam plane onouter edge of tyre profile and draw requird lined from the center of the line with standard measuring points.

create a datam plane on wheel arch and mark points where the lines of the previous datam point ends.

measure the distance between the ennd point of line to the corresponding points on the wheel arch using measure tool.
note down the measurements. according to europ[ian standard clearance must be 10mm of minimum
OBSERVATION TABLE:
| Section | Clearence | Result |
| SB | 10.8699mm | PASS |
| SA | 9.9511mm~ 10mm | PASS |
| SC | 7.9315mm | FAIL |
| SD | 7.6457mm | FAIL |
| SE | 7.3672mm | FAIL |
RESULT:
Asper europian standard there must be clearence of 10mm., inour case it do not satisfy that condition.
