Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Introduction to Wheel Arch:

- It is a semi circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle it is usually designed as a cover or shield over the tyre along its circumference
- Its main function is to avoid the debris or stone , dirt , sand etc from getting thrown in to the vehicle and on to pedestrians or other vehicles
- There should be proper clearance between tyre and the fender wheel arc this clearance value will be different from country to country as per the regulations

Example of European Standard

Procedure in NX CAD
- Create datum plane on the face of the given fender
- Create X, Y axis lines and giving names as 2 and 6 respectively
- Create the remaining points like 1 , 3, 4, 5
- Line no 3 is created at an angle of 50 degrees from the y axis or line no 2
- Line no 1 is created at an angle of 30 degrees from the -ve X axis
- Creating line no 5 at a distance of 150mm from the line no 6
- Project the fender lower curve and create intersection points
- Then measure the distance between the 2 points on the same line and check the line which is having minimum of 10mm clearance

Creating line from center

Intersecting lines

Conclusion :
1. Only line 1 is satisfying the standards of Europe i.e the clearence is 10 mm
2. Line 1 , 2 , 5 is satisfying japan , US standards i.e the clearence is > 5 mm
so by having european standard we can satisfy both JAPAN , US standards there fore line 1 is selecteced for the design.
