Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM:
To calculate the wheel arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard or not.
PROCEDURE:
The Fender is the automotive part where it is used to cover the wheel area to avoid the spraying of the particles from the road to air. The fender is also of two types they are half bumper type and full bumper type. It is shown in below image.
There are various rules and regulations are followed for the hood according to the road conditions of that country. The various regulations of various countries are shown below.
The above images show the various regulations for the fender design. Now in this challenge we are going to check whether the fender will pass the European standard or not.
Download the CAD data given for the fender and the wheel arch, it is shown below.
Put the points on that model where we want to check the dimensions of the model and use the measure command to find the distance and check them if it is fulfilling the design criteria for that area.
Now we can check the another parameter that is the a value or the wheel guard requirement.
All the required values are obtained from the above measurement and it is tabulated on the below table from this table value it is finalised that the fender can be approved or not.
The below table shows the values for the clearance value L, the minimum value required for passing the European standard is 10mm.

The area which is having less than 10mm clearance will not pass in this standard.
The wheel guard requires a minimum clearance of 5 mm on the sections of SA, SB, SC here the values which are more than 5mm is accepted or passes in the test.

CONCLUSION:
Thus the results are tabulated and from the above results the fender design is not passing the requirements of the European standards.
