Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

OBJECTIVE:

To study the standard and regulation for the fender design of wheel arch area and then analysis the data which is given in the question wheather the wheel arch area will going to pass the standards or not.

There is various standard which normally varies by region and there road structure like japanese,u.s AND europe,here we are going to take european standard.

INDROUCTION TO FENDER:

Fender is the american english term for the of an automobile,motorcycle or other vehicle boy that frames a wheel well(the fender underside).its primary purpose to prevent sand,mud,rocks,liquides,and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

Which is also used to protect the sides of the engine component.

The fender also prevents the predestrian injury when there is a predestrain vehicle collision and also its prevent throwing up of debries to nearby vehicles.

Commonly the front fender is designed seperately,The rear fender come along with the vehicle structure.

Pedrestrain saftey is also considered while designing wheel arch in the fender come along with the vehicle structure.

TYPES OF FENDER:

Full- Bumber type:

This is a conventional type used in fender and this fender covers almost 75 percentage and its shown in image.

HALF BUMPER TYPE:

This type of bumper mostly helps in reducing the weight of fender at the same time it is improves a lot for saftey of the predestrain moving.This type of image is shown below.

FENDER DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS:

1. Drip Area
2. Wheel arch
3. Baffle and ORVM monting area
4. Frontal crash regulation and its requirements

DESIGNING STANDARDS FOR FRONT FENDER:

European standards for wheel arch:According to the european standard clearance length for the wheel arch will be 10mm

Wheel CTR is also know as wheel center.SA,SB,SC,SD,SE are the points on the wheel from were it is projected to the wheel arch to measure the distance.

CONCLUSION:

Thwe wheel arch distance is measured and checked wheather it will meet the european standard.The results shows that the car will not pass the european standard since the only SA region meets the requirements.

The model will be sent to the styling department for reconsidering the wheel arch on the wheel arch on the stylished fender.
