Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
AIM: TO CALCULATE THE WHEEL ARC AREA USING EUROPIAN STANDARD.
NTRODUCTION TO FENDER: Fender is the american english term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well(fender underside).
INTRODUCTION TO WHEEL ARC: Wheel arc is a semicircular cut area in the fender, which houses the wheel well. It should have a sufficient clearance between tyre and wheel arc, so that it doesn't touch the wheel arc area during suspension. for designing wheel arc there are some standards world wide.
Eg, EUROPIAN, U.S AND JAPAN REGULATION STANDARD.
WE MAINLY LOOK INTO EUROPIAN STANDARD.
INTRODUCTION TO EUROPIAN STANDARDS:

WHEEL ARC CALCULATION:

Above is the surface that we have taken for calculations.

In above fig, Lines A, B, C, D AND E are plotted using the angle and distances mentioned in the europian standards. for checking whether it passes standard or not.
as we move forward for inspection we find some values, that shows gap between outermost part of the tire and outer part of the fender. Refer given figures.
.
FIG, A (shows 9.94 mm gap inward)

FIG, B (shows 10 mm gap inward)

FIG, C (shows 7 mm gap outward)

FIG, D (shows 9.3 mm gap outward)

FIG, E (shows 13.2 mm gap outward)
CONCLUSION:
EDGES OF TYRE REQUIRED GAP OBTAINED GAP RESULT
A 10MM 9.94MM PASS(Round-off)
B 10MM 10MM PASS
C 10MM 7MM FAIL
D 10MM 0.7MM FAIL
E 10MM -3.2MM FAIL
