Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

AIM :

To calculate the gap between the wheel arch of the fender to the tire and to calculate that the car will pass the European standard or not .

Fender :

A fender is the curved portion of the car body that sits over and houses the wheels. The purpose of afender is pretty simple . its purpose is to keep mud ,rocks ,and other road debris from being thrown around by the tries .in other words the fender is a housing for the wheels that keeps road debris contained .if there was nothing covering the wheels ,all kind of debris would be kid out by the routing tires .

there are two types of fender

1. full bumper fender

2. half bumper fender

most commonly used fender is half bumper fender because it has less sheet metal area as compared to the full bumper fender ,remaining parts are covered with plastic components.

wheel arch standards:

Wheel arch standard means that the gap between wheel arch of the fender to the tire .Different countries have different standards according to there government regulation which are

.japanese standard

.European standard

. US standard

in this challenge ,we need to ensure whether the given car passes the european standard .

European standard

procedure :

.Draw the lines on the outer edge of the tire based on the european standards

.make lines as a surface and check the gap between fender outer to the tire at different points as per european standards.

.as per the european standard at section gap be greater than 10mm.

.section SA-SA:At this section car fails to meet the standard since it is lesser than 10mm(9.9489mm)

.section SB-SB : At this section ,this car maintain the standard gap (10mm)

.section SC-SC:At this section ,this car fails to meet the standard since it is lessar than 10mm(0.1126mm)

.section SD-SD:At this section ,this car fails to meet the standard since it is lesser than 10mm(9.1339mm)

.section SE-SE:At this section ,this car fails to meet the standard since it is lessar than the 10mm(4.272mm)

The given model doesn't satisfy the european standard .increase the cleasrance on section SA-SA,SC-SC,SD-SD,SE-SE is the suggestion for the styling team inorder to pass the european standard.

conclusion:

thus the wheel arch gap is checked at required point as per European standard. Given model fail to maintain the standard
