Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
report of the calculation made on the wheel arch with fener design based on the standards
Introduction to Wheel Arch:
- It is a semi circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle it is usually designed as a cover or shield over the tyre along its circumference
- Its main function is to avoid the debris or stone , dirt , sand etc from getting thrown in to the vehicle and on to pedestrians or other vehicles
- There should be proper clearance between tyre and the fender wheel arc this clearance value will be different from country to country as per the regulations

EUROPEAN REGULATIONS REQUIREMENT
distance between the fender and the wheel arch for the suspension min distance
Measure CL L at sections SA-SA SB-SB SC-SC SD-SD SE-SE and produce CL check chart to validate.
- Wheel guard reqmt: The value of ‘a’ shall be more than 5 mm at a line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of axis of wheel

procedure
created the sketch with respective the european standards and created the intersecting points and projected the sketch on the fender and created the intersecting points and measured the values

| DISTANCE BETWEEN | REQUIRED DISTANCE | MEASURE DISTANCE | RESULT |
| SA-SA | 5 mm | 27.829 | PASS |
| SB-SB | 5 mm | 44.772 | PASS |
| SC-SC | 5 mm | 38.359 | PASS |
| SD-SD | 5 mm | 42.725 | PASS |
| SE-SE | 5 mm | 47.91 | PASS |
distance between the fender and wheel location
procedure
created the sketch with respective the european standards and created the intersecting points and projected the sketch on the fender and created the intersecting points and measured the values

- At all five sections the CL L value should be greater than 10 mm to satisfy the European regulations.
| DISTANCE CL (L) | REQUIRED DISTANCE | MEASURE DISTANCE | RESULT |
| SA-SA (L) | 10 mm | 9.949mm | FAIL |
| SB-SB (L) | 10 mm | 10mm | PASS |
| SC-SC (L) | 10 mm | -0.113mm | FAIL |
| SD-SD (L) | 10 mm | -2.879mm | FAIL |
| SE-SE (L) | 10 mm | -5.977mm | FAIL |
conclusion
as per the european standards the suspension distance created is satisfactory where as the wheel location is good at some areas and wheel arch is out at some areas
so the design may not be approved
