Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
OBJECTIVE
Here we have to Check the car Wheel Arc area and we will have to decide whether the provided FENDER will pass the EUROPEAN Standards or not.
CONSIDERATION FOR WHEEL ARC DESIGN IN EUROPEAN STANDARDS
Wheel Arch
- It the Semi-Circular area of the Fender which is present just above the Wheel.
- Its main objective is to prevent the Mud,Sand,and Chips etc, to the passenger compartment & as well as to the Engine Compartment.
- This Wheel Arch varries country to country depending upon the road conditions.
EUROPEAN STANDARDS

- As this above fig shows we need to consider 5 points on the fender curve ie: SA,SB,SC,SD,SE.Main constraint is, at all the 5 points the gap to be maintained grater than 10mm.
- That 10mm to be maintained withinn the outer most point of the Wheel to the Outer most point of the fender.
Design Steps

This above image shows all the 5 points are created on the outer most part of the Wheel.

Now in this fig the points are projected to the Fender end most point .Now we have to measure distance between the point we created and the point we projected.
So after measuring the Distance we ge the Values as follows,
SA=9.95MM SC=-2.25MM
SB=10MM SD=2.28MM
SE=5.9MM
CONCLUSION
Now as per standards the fender need to maintain 10mm at all this points,as this is not satisfied so this car will not pass the EUROPEAN STANDARDS.
