Fender Design Challenge
Fender-
Extremely simple, its name seems to speak for the effect of a fender. In general, a fender is a part mounted on the body of a car or some other public transport such as motorcycles, pickup trucks, bicycles, etc.
With the task of preventing mud, rocks, or sand from splashing into the air, a mudguard is responsible for protecting the wheels and avoiding mud and dirt splashing on people or other vehicles moving on the road.
Fenders are necessary for any vehicle you are using. However, below we will talk more about the importance of fenders for a car.
The fendors importance-
Usually, car fenders will be of plastic or rubber with the task of protecting your car from dirt or any road debris.
You can easily see your wheels spinning very quickly, especially in the rain. So the mudguard both avoids scratching the car and harming people traveling in the same lane as you, sometimes pedestrians.
And yet, the fenders also help protect the engine from wear due to rain or damage caused by debris entering the engine compartment. Thanks to the fenders, you have done some maintenance on your vehicle without spending too much time or money.
Types of fender-
Full size fender-
-
Full fender type is traditional type of fender where more material consumption is observed. This type is used in old design of automobiles where it increases the overall weight and thus reduces performance. The maintenance also relatively more due to more surface.

Half size fender-
The fender is on the side of the car, over the wheel. The bumper is installed on the front and rear sides of the car. Its main function is to the half fender minimize steel weight and improve the mileage of the cars.

Fendor Design Consideration
Design diamensions & consideration for car fender
When choosing a car fender for your car, there are a few factors that you need to keep in mind before finalizing your choice. First, think about the overall design of your car and the kind of accident it might get into. If you have a sedan, then consider buying a car bumper that can protect the car fender from damage in case of an accident.
1)Drip area Consideration
Primarily, the basic design of a fender involves in developing the drip area as it is a major mounting region and requires certain values that should qualify a fender design. If it is not properly designed then the drip area would be visible from the gap between the hood and the fender. The remaining mountings are covered by the other parts. For the design of the drip area, Master section is required which involves in certain dimensions. As per the above conditions the drip area section is developed. Also, a minimum distance should also be maintained from front and back side of the fender. For the mounting for the other components of an automobile.

2)Sill mount:
An automotive vehicle is necessarily provided with wide openings for accommodating doors at both sides of its body. Since the vehicle body suffers from various kinds of externally derived forces such as vertical bends and longitudinal twists which act around the axis of the vehicle body, a prerequisite is that those portions of the vehicle body which surround the door openings, especially the lower portions, be provided with sufficient rigidity. This prerequisite is generally met by using side sills which are individually located at a lower right and a lower left portion of a vehicle body in such a manner as to extend in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. The side sills which serve as reinforcing members for insuring the rigidity of the vehicle body around the door openings.

3)Bumper mount area:
A bumper is a structure attached to or integrated with the front and rear ends of an automobile, to absorb impact in a minor collision, ideally minimizing repair costs. So, the bumper mounting area involves in the remaining part of the fender that cover the splash region in that of a half fender type.Bumpers are increasingly being designed to mitigate injury to pedestrians struck by cars, such as through the use of bumper covers made of flexible materials. Front bumpers, especially, have been lowered and made of softer materials, such as foams and crushable plastics, to reduce the severity of impact on legs.

4) Splash Mounting area:
In order to stop all the debris entering into the engine room and other components like suspension joints etc., splash protector mounting part is being placed. The splash mounting area requires just to hold the splash protector mounting the slots/holes are being provided in the design. For some automobiles, additional to the fender, fender skirts and guards are placed in order to provide better protection. The design is not much involved in splash mounting . Just to provide slots for the fasteners in place.
