Fender Design Challenge
AIM:
The aim of these project is to design and The main design requirements for the Drip, Sill, Bumper, Baffle, (Splash), and A- Pillar mounting areas.
Fender:
A fender is the part of a car, truck, motorcycle , or other vehicles that frames or covers a wheel well. Its main purpose is to prevent debris, rocks, mud, liquids, sand, and other road debris from getting thrown in the air while the tires rotate.
The “fender” typically refers to the front panel that covers the front wheels, and the “quarter panel”: typically refers to the rear panel that covers the wheel that also includes the roof pillar. The “Bumper” is the front and rear ends of motor vehicle to absorb impact in minor collision.
Types of fender:
The type of fender is based upon the area cover i.e. full bumper type and half bumper type.
fender is based upon the area cover i.e. full bumper type and half bumper type.
- Full bumper type:
It is not used now a days because they requires bigger size blank to produce the part and the large scrap is also produced.

- Half bumper type:
Half bumper types are used in present and future also because the blank size is less and the wastage or scrap is less comparing to full bumper type fenders.

Uses of car Fenders:
- Car Fender limit the exposure of your car’s body and engine to external elements that are harmful.
- Fender flares are attached to ensure that both the body and engine have minimal contact with corrosive elements
- Car Fenders provides safety to the driver and the passengers at the time of accidents or collisions. They are manufactured in a way to provide bend during front and side collisions.
- Car Fenders are designed to avoid wind resistance and make your car more aerodynamic.
- Car Fender enhance the overall look of your cars. Fender flares are available in distinctive designs in the market. Mostly you find universal Fender flares, but you can get customized cars Fenders to fit your car wheels.
Give data for the Fender Design:

Design consideration for the fender:
- 150 mm Distance from front end is kept for the headlamps. some time it varies depend upon the car
- 200 mm Distance from the rear end is maintained for wiper assembly. some times it varies depend upon the car
- Engine components should not be visible from outside. For this purpose initially 3 degree of angle and suitable lenght should be provided

- To avoid spring back effect drip depth should be at maximum 40 mm
- The gap between engine compartment and drip area should not be less then 10mm
Area to be considered while designing a fender.:
- DRIP MOUNT.
- A PILLAR MOUNT.
- SILL MOUNT.
- BUMER MOUNT.
- BAFFLE MOUNT.
The Drip area is the connection of the fender with the engine compartment.
