Fender Design Challenge
FENDER:-
=> Fender is an American english term for the part of automobile, the primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids& or other road spary from being thrown into the air by the rotating tyre.
=>Fenders are typically rigid and can be damged by contact with the road surface.
=> The material generally used in fender are steel or aluminum.
=>fender is the covers wheel and engine compartments, customer won't see the internal ugly areas of engine compartment
=> fender is also protect the pedestrians from the high impact from the engine compartment.
Fender are basically 2 type models
1) FULL BUMPER TYPE
2) HALF BUMPER TYPE
FULL BUMPER TYPE:-
The full bumper type fender was used in old cars, it covers the full area until the front lighting. But it has a lot of sheet metal material which is unnecessary and increases the weight of the fender. This type of fenders are no longer used in automobiles

HALF BUMPER TYPE:-
Mainly half bumper type is now used in automobiles. It is basically related to scrap management. Half bumper type leads to less wastage of the blank.
We are changed from full bumper type to half bumper type to reduce the scrap rate per blank. In the full bumper, we can only produce one Fender per blank, whereas as a half bumper type we can produce 2 fenders per blank

There are generally 5 mountings on fender-
1. Body mounting
2. A-Pillar mounting
3. Sill mounting
4. Cowl mounting
5. Drip mounting

for design considerations given master section is

BUMPER AREA MOUNTING:-
Bumper mounting area is used to fix the plastic bumper to the fenders with the help of fastners.

DRIP AREA MOUNTING:-
=> It is the important mounting unit of fender,it is directly connected to the engine compartments,so while designing the fender lot of considerations to be followed, with hood team, styling team
=> while designing the drip area of fender we have to leave 200mm-300mm from cowltop
=> For placing the headlamp we have to leave minimum 150mm for front side of the fender edge
=> 2 darts are added to drip area for giving more strength of fender, and reduce NVH and spring back effect

SILL AREA MOUNTING:-
=> This pannel is directly placed in bottom of the door supporting to the floor and used to combine floor and body
=> bottom enf of the fender is mounted on the sill body, for reinforcement of the fender part and m5 fastners are used to fix the sill area
A-PILLER MOUNTING:-
this a piller is a structural combines of body sides to roof .This sides of the windshield rest. fenders are fastend to the A piller to this stuctural part

BAFFLE MOUNTING:-
Baffle is the mud gaurd are clip fit type of mounting on the inner side of the fender arch over the tyre & it is made by plastics for corrosion purpose

And finally design of fender is done with required considerations
