Fender Design Challenge
Fender
- Fender is the us English term for the part of an automobile that frames a wheel
- Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating
- When vehicle is moving, tires pick up stones and others and hurl them in all directions. Fenders are basically present to prevent any injuries to pedestrians and contain the motion of these
- More elaborate designs include fender skirts for enclosing the outside edge of the wheel well, and stylized ponton fenders for exposed

Mounting
There are 5 mounting points in a fender Body
A pillar Sill Cowl Drip

Study of fender drip area
Drip depths shall be uniform A=B=C
If depth unavoidably varies, it shall be either A>B>C

Note- dimension is 300 or less
- Point A-C
Defects due to compression stamping such as camber, etc. Thus, a touch difference is provided in flange depth when flange length exceeds 800
- Point A- up to end point of line F
Hood side drip depth must be 40mm or less as maximum productivity is achieved at the depth of 40mm, rigidity bead is to be provided. Also forming is not feasible if depth exceeds 60mm due to wrinkling and spring back

- Line F-Line G
When the drip surface is stamped, 3 deg must be secured for spring back. Angle can be increased in order to make expected modification possible.

Fender drip area pedestrian safety
The height shall be 80mm MN
The height in the range of WAD1700 MIN shall be 94 mm to meet the adult impact requirements.

Study of wheel guard requirement for FDR & BMPR Fender wheel arc area
Japan requirement
- Measure clearance L of tire, hu, cap, and fender in three different positions with area K and produce clearance check chart to
- Clearance must be greater than 5mm in all the three
- Wheel guard reqmt: the value of ‘a’ shall be more than 5mm at a line 30 degree forward and 50 degree rearward from the central vertical axis of axis of

The vehicle weight condition for the wheel centers and tires shall be the notified bar vehicle weight.
European regulations requirement
Measure CL L at sections SA-SA SB-SB SC-SC SD-SD SE-SE and produce Cl check chart to validate.
- All five sections the CL L value should be greater than 10 mm to satisfy the European
- Wheel guard reqmt: the value of ‘a’ shall be more than 5mm at a line 30 degree forward and 50 degree rearward from the central vertical axis of axis of

US regulation requirements
- Make clearance check details on all positions from -100 degree to 100 degree and make the clearance check
- All values should be greater than 5mm to satisfy the
- The value of ‘a’ shall be more than 5mm at a line 30 degree forward and 50
degree rearward from the central vertical axis of axis of wheel.

Conclusion
- Hence we studied that 3 conditions japan, European, US fender wheel arc area style that followed in fender
- Also we studied the fender drip area with limitation of dimensions and pedestrian safety
