Fender Design Challenge
FENDER DESIGN
OBJECTIVE:-
The objective of this project is to design different mounting areas like Sill, Bumper, Baffle(Splash), and A-Pillar mount according to the Engineering standard and drip area using master section on given skin data .
FENDER:-
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
TYPES OF FENDER:-
1)HALF FENDER TYPES:-
Half fender type is modern design where less material consumption is observed so productivity increases by reducing size of blank and thus providing more performance. The maintenance also relatively low compared to full bumper type.

2) FULL FENDER TYPES:-
Full fender type is traditional type fender where more material consumption is observed. This type of fender is used in old design of automobiles where it increases the overall weight and thus reduces the performance of car.

THE DIFFERENT MOUNTING AREA OF FENDER:-
To fix the fender Mountings are essential in our design we classified the mounting in 5 areas-
- Drip Area mounting,
- Bumper Mounting,
- Sill Mounting,
- A Pillar Mounting,
- Baffel Mounting,
1) Drip Area mounting:-
To design drip area mounting we will use the master section
DRIP AREA MOUNTING ON FENDER
Considering the ease of manufacturing using press and die’s sharp corners and sudden changes in dimension is avoided, if not possible, Relief cuts are added. Corner reliefs are provided to avoid intersection on bending. Embosses, fillets, blends are given to increase the local strength.

2)Bumper Mounting:-

3 Sill Mounting:-

4)A Pillar Mounting:-

5)Baffel Mounting:-

FRONT FENDER DESIGN:-

To keep the material waste or scrap to a minimum unnecessary features are avoided. The edges are kept clean and straight forward wherever possible. Considering the Weight and cost of production, the design is kept as simple and clean as possible without compromising on the safety aspect of the part.
